6.0 engine?

Is anyone running a 6.0 engine in their truck? I am considering purchasing a
'07 3500 dually chassis/cab with this motor ....has anyone experienced any quirks or problems that I should be aware of?

My experience is that it is a powerhouse, but likes gasoline.

Re: 6.0 engine?

That is mostly because of the 4l80 and rear gears I think. You could go witht he 4l80 or build a 700 for it, providing you ditch the DBW and go DBC

Re: 6.0 engine?

not sure if the 2500 and 3500 have the same 6.0...but if so its the LY6...which is an iron 6.0L with VVT and the high flow L92/LS3 style heads, with rectangular intake ports instead of cathedral ports. They are good strong motors with lots of potential. The VVT should give you great torque and mid range power, w/o sacrificing wide open power...all while getting reasonable fuel economy when cruising. Since the VVT works off of your oil system...just keep the oil clean and you shouldn't have any problems.

Re: 6.0 engine?

had a nbs 07 6.0L only issue i really had was the 6 speed auto needed reprograming like five times but after that is was awesome. I put a GM performance cold air intake and opened up the exhaust was good for about 2 miles per gallon. pulled my 31 foot travel trailer better than my 09 d-max(piss me off)

Re: 6.0 engine?

I have a 1500 and it pulls like no other, I hate the pesky torque management but it's there for a reason. As said earlier it does like gas. Average mileage around 15 and I have driven 80% of my miles dragging my boat.

Re: 6.0 engine?

Not sure about the 07 engine, but I had a 2002 GMC 1500HD with a 6.0, and it was a beast! It had a tune by Wait4Me, a cold air intake, and true duals. I pulled a 28' fifth wheel RV all summer and a 24' enclosed snowmobile trailer all winter, and never had a problem keeping up with my diesel buddies, much to their chagrin.

Funny how that works huh? I have buddies dragging their rigs with loud ass cummins, powerstroke and even the quieter duramax. Never have any problems leaving them in the dust. Don't get me wrong.....I know the deisels will out torque a gas engine but the stock gas engine will out run them all day long.

Re: 6.0 engine?

I like the 6.0 I have in my 71, tuning is key, there is NO timing in these motors.....but once you get them dialed in they are alot of fun!

Re: 6.0 engine?

I have a 2500HD with the 4L80 and if I can remember right 4.10 gears and it gets 14 Hwy empty, I use it to pull my 24' enclosed trailer. When pulling the trailer I care not to know what my mileage is. Cheaper maint. on the gas than any diesel I have ever owned though.
