Four wheel drive binding up?

So I finally got the Dana 60r / Dana 44f axles installed, checked the gear ratios (counted teeth) and everything installed properly. Here's the problem, when I use the 4wd, it feels as though the front and rear wheels are trying to move at different speeds. In addition, when I try to unlock the hubs, it is as if everything is bound up and not only can I not unlock the hubs, I can't shift the transfer case back into 2wd from 4wd hi. I have the Rockwell T221 divorced 4.10 gears front and rear and was attempting this on snow/slush covered blacktop. I was wondering if the gear sets for the 60 are slightly different from the 44 or if there was any way that the front could be in high range while the rear was in low? Any ideas or insight is welcome. Thanks. Chris

Re: Four wheel drive binding up?

Binding is common on hard surfaces.Especially when turning the front wheels .It just takes some back and forth/popping trans out of gear action.

Re: Four wheel drive binding up?

on the 44f the gear ratio comes out at 4.09 and rear dana 60 at 4.10. there is nothing wrong with that. It comes from the factory like that. you have some other issue, if you are sure that the gears are the same. maybe more than one problem.

Re: Four wheel drive binding up?

No lockers, but posi/limited slip in ther rear. The rear is from a 73 1 ton Dodge van and the front is 72 3/4 ton Chevy. Maybe the tires are just a little grabby?

Re: Four wheel drive binding up?

You havent said if you managed to shift back into 2x4 or if you could unlock the hubs. I had the same problem with my kids k/5 the other day and he was also on semi slippery roads and I couldnt shift it or spin the hubs so I pulled the truck onto the grass went back and fourth a few times and it shifted fine...We were getting to much traction before.. Just like special-K said...If not BIG HEAD may be on target.....just my two cents.....
