My truck had the trailer wiring option, but it was installed really badly. They literally blew a 1.5" hole through the frame with a cutting torch to run it. I fixed all of that of course.

Anyway, I'm wondering if there is a harness that will allow me to add trailer wiring, including an electronic brake controller, without cutting any wires. I could likely invent and fab one with the right Packard connectors, but I'd be happier buying a pre-made one since I'm not a trailer guru.

Anyone know if there's something like this available for our trucks? I prefer M&H if possible, but will take what I can get on this one.

If you google 67-72 chevy truck trailer wiring harness you will find several plug-in adapters. they range in price but you can look at reviews. there are also some threads on 67-72 chevytrucks.com on the subject. Good Luck.

Years ago I found one that has stock plugs. You plug it in around the license light. Was able to separate the two at the connection and the trailer harness went in between the two. Just crawled under the truck. you unplug the harness for the tail lights from the harness that comes from the cab. The male plug fits into the rear frame cross member. There is an adapter that comes with the trailer harness that plugs into this male plug. There is one plug for the trailer harness and the second for the tail light harness to plug back into. On the adaptor there is a brand name Hoppy and they call it a
Lite Mate. I googled it and came up with this. It's simple.

I just bought one from Wes at Classic Heartbeat. It's just a 4-flat, but you can easily go from a 4-flat to a round. You will not find one with brake wiring, as that is going to come from an aftermarket brake controller in the cab.

'69-'87 should be the same. Any autoparts store should be able to fix you up. A lot of the packages say '73 and up, but that's what I used on my '69.

You will have to add the circuit for the brakes. I did this on my '70 GMC using the no cut and then adding circuit breakers by the battery to a 10 ga wire run the length of the truck wiring as directed on the brake controller.
