I believe what he meant by short bed is it has the factory flatbed that would normally come on the shorter (133") cab`n`chassis C/30s since it`s dual wheel.

Maybe not weird, but I had a`70 Custom Camper/30 with Custom equipment,402/TH400.The transmissions for 1t trucks came with no park back then.It had all the options you`d want in any CST but was the 157" truck. It was Medium Gold Poly to match the Winnebago W-stripe with a Parchment interior.Winne changed the cloth in the seat to a gold.I had the west coast mirrors chromed and installed chrome Budd wheels. That thing was nice and very uncommon for a 1t.

Re: Weird factory options??????

Capev86, I'll meet you in the Saco, Biddeford area, (halfway between us) and show you the truck, the original bill of sale, and the spid. I'll even buy lunch ! This isn't a "built" truck, it's a factory short body flatbed (127" WB) with the dual rear wheels. I contacted the GM restoration office in Mich. and they said there were 1103 short wheel base single rear wheel C20 flatbeds ordered in '68. They also said GM didn't keep track (records) of anything that was less then 1% of a given production run. Based on those numbers, mine is one of eleven or less.

Too Much Stuff, sorry about the hijack!

"Already Gone" Pink truck is pretty rare!

Also "ORIGINAL" SWB/Fleetside wood beds are unusual.

Nice Topic!

I would really question if that is a original factory tach. The other gauge needles are faded WAY more than the tach. I think someone added it later.

How about the rear-mounted auxilary gas tank in`70?
I got one of the factory aux tanks in my 70 C20.

Re: Weird factory options??????

DRW option was in fact availble on a 3/4 ton... even on a coil spring truck. Just not with a fleet or step box.

Thank you Longhorn Man. I bagged the rear end to maintain deck height, but it came from the factory with the HD coils.

Re: Weird factory options??????

I have a 1972 GMC half ton 4x4 suburban with the factory manual throttle in the dash. I was thinking it was there for running a winch and letting the truck warm up with a higher idle. It is an original california truck. It doesn't work, but It would be neat to make it work.

Too Much Stuff, sorry about the hijack!

If Saco is 1/2way to Portland Head, you can't be too far from a former residence of mine; Oak St in Kennebunk.

Sorry 'bout the other hijack!

I agree I would like to make mine work as well. See my earlier post. I can see them being on a bigger truck to run a PTO or something. I think it would be a little dangerous to use it as a cruise control though. There seems to be very little information or parts to restore it to working order.

He said it was there so a farmer could put the truck in low gear, bailing wire the steering wheel to hold straight, and throttle the truck to creep while he walked next to it throwing square hay bales on it and a trailer.
I can see that working on a manual transmission with a granny low. On an automatic like mine I don't see that working so well.
Thanks

We got ours from a trailer place in the early '70s. They looked stock.

Re: Weird factory options??????

My buddy has a 70 that has the proportioning valve mounted on the frame rail with a bracket that uses factory frame rivets. Anyone see this before? Also his cab has a hole in the inside corner above and behind your head, like there was once a map light or something.. and it is factory-style with rolled edges.

How would they know what percentage it was with-out keeping records? It's not like all of the year's production is ordered at one time.

And so how did the OD work? It wasn't another gear inside the transmission case, was it? I'd like to keep my three-speed, but the overdrive would be a really nice thing to have, so any info I can get on this would be appreciated.
