Thanks man. You are right. Sometimes it turns into such a hassle that the fun factor can't be found. Luckily for me and thanks to you all i am slowly getting my fun factor back and i am feeling like really getting into this build. I have ordered some new suspension parts and getting ready to start stripping the body down. Hopefully here in another month or two it will be bearable outside and i can really get going on the body work. Sure helps having you guys as friends on here to help out along the way.

That is awesome that you found a nice grill, and an aluminum one at that.

Are you going to use that '63 GMC frame and running gear?

Yes, the cab and frame will all be 63, everything else will be 61. I hope it all goes together as it should, LOL. I am VERY excited over this grill. It is in mint condition. I will post some pics of it and the trim when they arrive.

Thanks Fab.

Re: My 61 Build (Grandfathers truck clone)

Dave, I got the grill for $125.00 and it is laser straight.

Well, it has been a while but i have made some progress on my 61. In the following pics you will see dad's cab also. Today we picked up all my 61 pieces and dad's 66 sheet metal. I spent all day shooting PPG Epoxy on all the sheet metal. Tomorrow i will re-prime everything with a high build top coat primer. I also will be painting my frame and all the suspension pieces. I am beat after being out in 105 degree heat all day shooting primer. I will have more pics to come as i move forward.

I also included some pics here of dad's 66 completed frame. It is a 327 and a Jaguar rear end that we narrowed down to run the wide M/T's.

Here down is all dad's truck........................

Re: My 61 Build (Grandfathers truck clone)

Excellent progress!

I knew you'd get back on that old horse that kicked you off. The fact is, you're working faster than the rest of us bums! I can't imagine shooting primer in 105 degree heat. That stuff must have been kicking off the instant it left the gun. Getting those parts primed quickly is a must, especially in that Texas humidity because it'll flash-rust overnight.

Re: My 61 Build (Grandfathers truck clone)

Thanks guys. I have made some good progress for sure. Yes, in this heat the primer sets in seconds vs. minutes. I lay it on fast and it sets fast. Tomorrow will be another day of high build primer and i dread it, LOL.

flips.....LOL, Yes, I guess i am pretty much a hardcore gearhead or just too dumb to get inside in the AC.

Dad and I talked to the paint and body guy today. He is gonna stop by soon and give a price to do both trucks and i hope we can afford it. My truck will be the Tampico Turquoise and Cameo White, Dad's will be solid black inside and out. I can't wait to get these things in color.

Just checking on ya. Hope Im never there...weve had some rocky times too.

Man, your build on the 64 had progressed WAY past what I had expected when I first saw it, back when you first posted. I wasnt a member then. This one will be sweet too.

I love your dads truck too, if it was mine I would have done everything except paint it. I loved that faded red. However I know its crazy to do the frame and engine like he did and then leave the body like it was.

I'm looking forward to both of these builds. Yours for the grandfather connection, and your dad's because what's there looks beautiful, and black inside and out is my favorite combination.

Re: My 61 Build (Grandfathers truck clone)

It's good to see you working on your '61 Zack

That was certainly a bunch of priming to do. Your arm must be wore out!

Looks like you're using the '63 frame as originally planned?

Your dad's truck is looking good too

Re: My 61 Build (Grandfathers truck clone)

Thanks guys. Yes, my arm is completely numb. I spent yesterday priming epoxy and today priming with a high build primer to seal off the epoxy. So, i am totally exhausted and with it being 105 degrees today i am done for a few days, LOL. Most people just don't have a clue what all it takes to frame up one of these trucks. It seems endless at times and countless hours and dollars. I am only getting started and i have a ton of work ahead. Oh well, this afternoon is "meet the teacher" day at school. Since i have to get my kiddos back in the school anyway i will be dedicated to them until we get our routine back in order. Hope to get back on the truck in a week or so.

slowtruk................yes, marriage at times is almost impossible for me. All i want is a peaceful home but she prefers fussing over peace. I have never understood a woman's brain and i don't think they even understand themselves.

I hope Liz isn't around, she might have a few choice words for me, LOL. Sorry Liz, not intended at you.

LOL , those are comprised of some 2x4's, 4x4's and some harbor freight casters. Nothing real fancy. I hope they stay together long enough for us to finish the body work.
