Darren, your truck isn't dark green w/chrome wheels is it? I saw one fitting that description on the interstate on my way through middletown once, thought maybe it was you.

btw, start with the Windsheild and Break lines. Safety First.

well unless they brake lines are leaking i would do the tranny its the mod you are gonna see the most improvement with and probably be happy with the other stuff seems as though u might be able to sneak it in one thing at a time. the tranny project should be less than a grand anyways depending where u get the tranny from.

I agree, get a new tranny, the other stuff is small stuff that dosen't have to be done all at once, but the tranny will make a big difference.

I'd get a new transmission.......the other stuff is "nickel and dime" one piece at a time stuff.

Go out for a spin, then pop the hood and check your fluids and a good once over, and then stand back and look at your rig.
Now...what pothers you the most. Is there a spring poking you in the ass threatening tetnis? Does your truck wander all over the road, or can you not tell since your front windshield is cracked and fogged up? How bout the engine, is there more oil on it than in it? Is there any duct tape holding something on? Looking at the truck, are your tires good, or do they have belts hanging out the tread? Is everything where it supposed to be?
I have kinda adapted this way of thinking my self. I have notived that I have added quite a bit of $$ to increase performance, yet my brakes are still less than marginal. I notived I normally have a good sounding stereo, but I can't hear it over the exhaust. And we won't even talk about the duct tape.
If your truck did OK on all the things (and similar items) that I listed...go for the tranny. (with a high stall verter and shift kit naturally)

Change the powerslide to a 700r4. It should help you get better gas mileage. Therefore leavin a little bit more money in your pocket to do the other stuff.

I'm going to kind of go against the crowd here. If your old powerglide shifts fine and doesnt slip then dont replace it with a TH 350 just yet. If the brakelines arent leaking. Hold off. I'd go with the new windshield and new rubber. It'll make driving it more pleasant . maybe even get some new interior stuff. Ive often found that if I start with the cosmetic stuff first that I enjoy driving it a lot more so down the road when I can better afford to pay for some big ticket mechanical stuff I dont have a problem paying for it. Clean up the wheels with some mothers polish. With the thousand bucks get a Maaco paint job and change the window glass and I think you'll find yourself grinning from ear to ear when you get compliments on your truck whether it shifts once to get to hi gear or twice.

Now seeing you truck. I would say, your best bet, is to spark your interest in your truck. To do this I recomend a face lift. This will keep you focused and enthusiastic about fixing it up.

I'd start by lowering it, some (just coils, for now)

Then a new chrome rear bumper.

Tint the windows, and take the side molding off. Take your wheels to a bead blaster, then get some high quality clear to spray on them.

This will drastically improve the looks with minamum cash.

Use the rest on small bugs.

After you do all this you'll notice the potential more clearly, and it'll make it more real. Keeping your eye on your overall plans for the truck.

Ok i say buy a little POS gas saver........why? cause then you won't be investing so much money in gas( i think investing is a bad word in this sentence), your truck need some work, alot and to have a reliable car will help more then you think. Sht i drive the hardware store a few times i got 1/4 of a tank gone but i'm heavy on the peddle(radios faults). Either that or get a 700r4 tranny. that my .02

only $1.75 for gas? 87 octane is about $2.07 here, and lets not even talk about 91.

We bought a 1988 Honda Accord LX in November 2002 for $2K Canadian. It has 125K Kil (about 80K Miles) and the A/C even works. It is real good on gas and a lot of fun to drive even though it is no sports car. Needs a little rust repair but not bad for its age. I still have my truck and $2K wouldn't have done all that much for it.

I dont think I seen it but here it goes. Send the 1K to me and dont sweat the small stuff. Coudnt resist. If you plan it right you should be able to get all that for 1K+ a little, especially if you hit the JY.
