GMC cluster question - body color always?

I see a lot of GMC trucks that have the dash cluster the same as the body color - did 70-72 Jimmys follow that same approach?

I have a 70 GMC Jimmy and wasn't sure if the cluster (full gauge set) would have been body color or the standard black/chrome.

Great question. I don't recall seeing any Jimmy cluster bezels other than black nor a contrasting gb door color. Pickups definitely. Would like to know more. There are photos here of a survivor white 71 Blazer that had what very likely was a contrasting blue gb door matching the interior.

It is a great question. The 70 jimmy I owned had the standard black faced gauge, I also parted two jimmies in the early nineties, they too were black faced gauges. Maybe brochures will have some pictures?

Re: GMC cluster question - body color always?

My 72 had/has a body color glove box with black gauge cluster, but that being said, who knows what the PO did before me in 50 years

Re: GMC cluster question - body color always?

My '71 Jimmy has a black faced dash. Doubt if the PO messed with it. He did have the interior and exterior repainted in Maui Blue [medium metallic blue]. Original color was Copper.

Re: GMC cluster question - body color always?

Maybe I should ask if anybody has a Jimmy that has a painted dash face...might have only been a truck option.

Re: GMC cluster question - body color always?

Very good question.

The best hope is someone with a un molested Jimmy will chime in.

I curious about this. We do color match for GMC trucks if requested. Never had any request for Jimmy cluster work to date.

Not hugely common but to the owner, I’m
sure it would be good information.

Nothing on SPID or build sheet shows this.

Re: GMC cluster question - body color always?

Here's the stock India Black w/chrome trim gauge cluster in my '71 Jimmy.
Although the PO had the exterior and interior painted ''Maui Blue'' over the original Copper, he did not mess with the trim which was black.
Black Dash. Black Steering Wheel and Column. Black Visors. Black deluxe vinyl door panels, Arm Rests, and Rear Side Panels. Center Console was missing, but I got a black GMC one. Dash Pad was shot, I replaced with a medium blue one.
