Hydroboost question

I have a question about Hydro boost pressure Lines the Hydro boost unit came from a Chevy Astro van which have O ring and The steering gear is 78 which has a flared fittings Does anyone know which Lines can be used thanks Doug

You can cut the very end of the line off and remove the o ring fitting and replace it with an inverted flare fitting. The tube sizes are the same. Then just re flare and your good to go. This is how I did the lines on my 72. You can see exactly how I did it in the link next the K20 in my signature. Starting around post 161.

As of now I have no hydraulic lines and have wondered what would be the best lines to start with possibly those for a 78 or 79

I’ve got the hydraboost unit from an 09 Silverado 2500 and the factory 72 steering box and pump, I used the inverted flare Pump to hydraboost line off the shelf at Napa From a mid 70s(77 maybe? I can’t remember for sure, and I had to modify the line a little to get it to work) k30, then the booster to steering box line was from the 09. Rubber return line was from the 09 then tee’d into the return from the box to the pump. For what it’s worth I had to fill the system with it running because the reservoir on the 72 pump wasn’t big enough to fill the system and I had major cavitation issues at first. Once I got it filled properly it bled easily.

Well for any one that was following, I tried a set of line’s from a mid 90 but both ends were o-ring with the idea of using an adapter or flaring the gear box end but they were way to long and the tubing was bent in all the wrong places. The same thing with the 70 to long just didn’t work. And in both cases they were about $70. And to have a set made at a hydraulic shop was couple hundred dollars, so I bought 6an fittings and black stainless steel line all for about the same price as the factory ones, that Way You can use what ever fitting you need to match the components you are using.Name:  90CD3D5A-F81A-4772-ABA7-C07E2AB90BC2.jpg

I'm close to needing to do this myself.

I've looked briefly at getting hydraulic line made.

Is there anything special about the hose and fittings you bought, or is this just your typical Summit Racing kind of thing?

Yes this is all the kind of stuff you can buy from Summit racing .I just googled 6an Fittings I bought two O-ring adapter fittings for the Hydro boost and two 90s. for the gear box I bought one inverted flare adapter and one 90. For the return line from the gear box I used about 6in pecs 3/8 tubing bent a 90 degree and Used an inverted flare nut. You can get the black nylon covered Stainless or in the polished stainless which ever you prefer . For the return lines I used 3/8 fuel line from hydro boost and from the 3/8 tubing at the gear box to T and then to the pumps return port. For the pressure side of the pump on mine I used a banjo fitting and a 6AN connector. It’s basically going to depend on whether your Hydro boost has O-rings or inverted flare and the same with the gearbox whether it is O-ring or inverted flare, your power steering pump Pressure side will depend on the fitting on the pump. But you can buy 6AN fittings for whichever you have hope this helps anyone watching
