Re: 72 2wd project "No Daggum Money"

Those are 4X4 manifolds, two wheel drive manifolds curve back about 45 degrees at the bottom because of engine sitting forward. Also looks like you have the 4X4 rear crossmember (oval hole visible), you need a trans crossmember from a two wheel drive it will have two 3/8 holes for the trans mount. I've heard of guys using a 73-74 crossmember for the trans. Someone asked if this is a Blazer frame or a shortbed truck frame, need to determine this as they are different lengths. Shortbed truck is 115" wheelbase, Blazer, 104"

Re: 72 2wd project "No Daggum Money"

So I guess the engine mounts look like they are in the correct position? Does anyone have a picture of these manifolds? I have seen I think the passenger side angled but haven't seen the driver side. I have noticed the 73 manifolds are much different from 72. Driver side is dumped further back and passenger is angled. I would like to try to use these as I have "NO DAGGUM MONEY".
I don't see why this cross member will not work. Please enlighten me on that. Is the correct one much different? I drilled the holes and alignment seems ok.
Oh.. and yes I have determined that this is indeed a blazer frame. I also own a 4wd swb 1970 and they are very much different. This one has the rear bumper mount cut clean off, but my original still has them. Someone must have put an aftermarket bumper on at one time. But wheelbase is right and mounts are correct.

Re: 72 2wd project "No Daggum Money"

If the back of the frame appears 'cut clean off' than it is more than likely to be a 69-71 frame. The 72 Blazer frame extends out beyond the body, the earlier ones don't. I cant see from pics posted if the other things you asked are correct. Is your other 4X4 an auto trans?

I believe the turn down in the frame on the rear, took the place of the need for extra brackets for the bumper.

Re: 72 2wd project "No Daggum Money"

So I swapped the upper control arms and moved the lowers forward about 3/4" since it was free to do. My brother is an alignment guru so I guess the rest is up to him. I may have some new rotors and calipers but I cannot seem to access my p/m's I think due to this "ATTACK SITE" cra-! I did however get a nice Pro Mig 135 with a big argon tank from my girls brother. It was just sitting in his garage getting banged around so I was able to relieve him of this burden. WOOHOO! Price-"0.00" Gotta love family!

OK so thanks to Hart-Rod I finally spent some money and what a guy he is for giving me such a deal! So now I have new rotors and calipers-tie rods, and a sway bar! Thank you sir, you are an amazing guy. Wish I lived closer to you!
Wish I could have gotten those control arms too but I didn't have NO DAGGUM MONEY!

Hard to tell from the pics. The pads should ride on the cross-pins, held in place by the piston spring on the rear, and through the holes on the outer pad.

Thank you ...Been so long since I've done 2wd. Rechecked at the parts store and the pads are the same for 73 2wd. Did not have any calipers when I got it so it's a shot in the dark for me. 25 years ago I could tell you. Not today. Must be Old Timers!

Re: 72 2wd project "No Daggum Money"

OK so I freshened up the 307ci with a new timing chain (was original plastic type) new front seal and balancer repair kit. While I was getting the plastic chunks out of the oil pickup I decided to get a new oil pump and do the rear main seal and of course new pan gasket. This was all due to the freeze plug with a hole in it behind the starter. I was just going to throw it in and run it till it dies while looking for that great deal on CL.
Well I found it right after I painted up the 307ci. And put new freeze plugs in.
Freshly machined .30 over 3970010 casting with brass plugs and new cam bearings. $175.00.
Darn long drive through some sketchy rock roads and several 20 ft high bonfires. Thought I was gonna see some chainsaw murderers running around. But I got it. Came with the old pistons/rods and balancer but no crank. Probably didn't pick it up from the machinist.
A while back I got a set of 882 heads with screw in studs and guide plates with roller rockers.
And so begs the question? 355 or 383 or would that be a 385ci with .30 over?
Trouble is I got NO DAGGUM MONEY!

Side note= also fixed kitchen faucet with a sbc valve seal. Whodathunk it would also work on a Moen. Now I have 15 more repairs possible!

Thanks guys! It sure is tough working on it with no garage and No Daggum Money! Haven't Quite figured out the front brake lines yet. Anyone have a pic of how a disc setup brake line system goes through the frame and where? Any pics would be appreciated!

Re: 72 2wd project "No Daggum Money"

Been a while since I had any progress on this but I sold some stuff and found a decent Saginaw 4 speed with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter on it for a couple hundred so out comes that th400 and in goes the Manual trans. It does not look too good from the outside but the inside looks great, And I already have everything else to install it.

Also learned how to change my own tires so I put some new rubber on the rear.
Bought new weld on spring perches for the rear but don't want to weld them up til I mock it up with the body on the frame with the right stance I am looking for.

I know, I know, it never happened unless there are some pics to prove it.
They are coming.

So I got the rebuild kit today for the trans. Guess I'll do that but still don't have a stick for the shifter. What are you guys using for bucket seats? Any one have a th350 Slip yoke they don't need?
