Some neat fender badges. I'll post the one I have later. Nothing rare or special.

Never heard of the two different colors. Can you provide some evidence?

Re: Hood & fender emblems

Sodly...was in a thread I was watching awhile back. Maybe I should edit #124 as I am not certain and I do not want to mislead anyone. The 67-72 guys are almost certain that 66 was a different color bowtie than the 67-68, but again, I cannot verify it. I was just trying to post an example of the particular emblem for this thread. I had some pics archived of a few different custom campers emblems as the thread I'm looking for indicated that the I6 engines had a different color than the v8 equipped trucks. Ill continue to look for the thread. Ill also edit #124 so it doesn't mislead anyone. Also...here a pic of a NOS emblem for the thread.

Re: Hood & fender emblems

1964 GMC concept truck v6 emblem. This is the only picture I have of this emblem. If anybody has anymore information or pictures of the trim package, please share.

I originally posted this in Nostalgic pics thread, but thought it might get some more help here.

Re: Hood & fender emblems

I recently bought a 1964 GMC hood in very nice shape. Someone slapped some epoxy primer on the DS 3rd of the hood but it will be stripped off down to bare metal anyway before I'm done with it.

Seller said the 2 rectangular areas that straddle the center hood line are where emblems were removed. They are about 8" in front of the cowl.

Anyone able to confirm if there really were emblems there or was he full of hot soup?

Re: Hood & fender emblems

Ive never seen a 60-66 hood with any emblems on them except for the sides. The hood ornament were mounted on top, but only 3 holes and much closer to the nose of the hood. Those were drilled by some PO sometime in the trucks life. Nothing stock.

I agree and am glad for the confirmation. I didn't want to argue with the seller. He gave me an awesome deal. Either way, I was not gonna put any emblems back on, even if I had them. I'm just the curious type and wanted to know.

Thanks for the input.

Re: Hood & fender emblems

Ive never seen anything mounted there, unless it was a prototype that never made mass production. I had never seen the prototype gmc v6 emblem pictured above until a few days ago either, but again it did not make the production line.

I have seen many differnt hood emblems and things mounted to them before....I'm thinking there were probably some early ss camaro style hood ornaments (or something similiar) mounted there.

Check the distance with your fender emblems....maybe he mounted some of those there. Any chance he had any pics of the hood with the emblems?

No pics available. It was worth a shot to ask about the hood, but I'm cool with the fact they were not factory emblems.

Re: Hood & fender emblems

Heres a part # to go w/the diesel emblem. Jonz posted a few in post #8, not sure exactly what years they were used for, but if anyone knows, please let me know and I'll update the post.

Toro-flow diesel Part # 2465570 and the pic was provided by HomebuiltHotrods (he has a set on the classifieds and gave us a part #.)

Re: Hood & fender emblems

What might also be interesting is the placement of some of the emblems.

I have the 61 apache hood (side) emblems for my truck, but do people just kind of "ballpark" where to put them on the hood or are there some measurements that people have from the stock placement?

If the mounting holes in my hood still existed, no problem but they have long since been covered.

Re: Hood & fender emblems

This truck is actually my uncles project. It started as a half ton 2 wheel drive . Now it's on a 1 ton frame with a stock 454. Until a real motor can be built.

here are some for the diesels. If you look at the back of the 63 emblems they also show a part number for the diesel models as well, I have yet to see any of those.

can you see the mounting locations from the back side of the hood? has to be a member here who can get the measurements for you.

I agree.
I have collected one each of the 10 through 80 series emblems but have yet to find a 60 or 80 DIESEL emblem.
