Pretty big exhaust on it too. My guess is a diesel swap that turned ugly.

Oooh. Good call I didn’t even see the size of that exhaust there. That’s probably it.

That is how you converted a long bed to a short bed in the olden days

Re: Not photoshopped. Odd truck

My guess is the chassis belongs to another vehicle and they thought it would be cool with the square body pick up on it.

Frame might have started life as a long bed crew cab.

Maybe it's some sort of makeshift storage area under the hood. I hate to bother people, but a truck that crazy would make me want to knock on the door to satisfy my curiosity.

Why would you move the cab back and extend the front end rather than extend the bed?

There has got to be a reason. Like WyattTX suggested, I'd be knocking on the door

Re: Not photoshopped. Odd truck

Okay, now I'm just making up stories. But I feel like you can see a line on the front fender where the stock one ends and then the 16 or 18-in was added on. That looks to me to be about the amount of the aftermarket extended cab conversions. So if the extended cab was wrecked or rusted-out would this be an easier solution? I don't know.. If you wanted to smuggle stuff, would anybody catch on that there was a big space behind the engine compartment? You'd think so, but they repainted, replaced the trim, and did extensive work on a hood to make that fit. I actually think the custom work happened in the 80s though because of the rear window louver.

Re: Not photoshopped. Odd truck

Perhaps someone crammed a class 8 engine into it. I don't know if a light duty truck could take that kind of power, but that's the only reason I could think of for needing a lengthened engine bay on a truck with an already massive engine bay. Of course there may also be people crazy enough to put a V16 into a square. Or maybe Elon Musk built that truck to hold batteries for an electric conversion. This truck is ain't pretty, but it looks a lot better than the Cyber truck does.

I'd be equally interested in pics of this old bike you bought.

Re: Not photoshopped. Odd truck

I am enjoying all the unusual vehicles that are being drawn into this thread. I'd like to see more about the bike, and hear the backstory. That stretched dually with the camper that is half submarine is very intriguing. I'm a bit fascinated about the idea of two inline vintage GMC V6s.

Oh yeah, plus there's that long nose truck that started the whole thing.

I will post some of what we bought there as long as everyone is ok with off topic. As my handle suggests my dad and I have been working on a military halftrack. We stopped by this place years ago and bought some parts to a halftrack. I stopped by this yard again a month or two ago and the son is selling some of the vehicles. Nice guy. My dad bought a 48 ford business coupe. I picked up a 78 Vw bus my daughter claimed. I picked up a 75 blazer, the police bike and a cb200. I have to pick up the motorcycles but a lot of stuff is in the way. The police bike the son was told is from the Omaha police department in the 70s. I will post more pics of it when I get it out along with stopping by the long nose Chevy.

Last pics are of a unadvertised salvage yard near Spaulding ne that I found what you see. Crazy.
