Thoughts on a gas tank?

http://dansperformanceparts.com/bugg...buggyfuel1.htm

Dimensions look nice... 16g tank, could fully fit under the frame and not hang.

I might run one on my GMC project.

Re: Thoughts on a gas tank?

wow.. you could almost fit that right under the front of the bed. Save $ on about 4 feet of hose on a LWB.

I like the remote filler neck. Thats sharp lookin.

Any of the ones that work for your situation.

I think I may run the 16 gallon one.

I like it. Not sure what you would do for a gauge except guess, though.

<edit> My bad, I didn't scroll down.

I remember a sweet VW build in Hot VW's years ago that had a picture of the owner holding a twig. The caption was something like "owner posing with his gas gauge" that he kept under the seat.

Heh, I take it you saw the sending unit options?

I think I will run two of the 16 gallon ones, inside my frame rail, slight staggered.

Re: Thoughts on a gas tank?

Those would look pretty good in the bed of an old truck.

Some of the truly-early VW's indeed came with a wooden dipstick as what was the "gas gauge." Don't klnow about the twig dip-stick tho.

Not sure - whether the car was a late 40's - early 50's, but I worked with a guy many-moons ago in Chicago that had one. An early-early split window dubbie. Burgandy & black two-tone factory color. Rotted-out from the Chicago Winter-salt roads, and he parted it out & scrapped the hulk.

Re: Thoughts on a gas tank?

`49 was first year for VW imports and the split window ran through`53 IIRC.I had a`56 with no fuel gauge. They had a reserve valve like a motocycle.Simple is good.I never ran out of fuel.

Those look like a great option.

Re: Thoughts on a gas tank?

I had one of these in a '61 ragtop Veedub I was rollin' a few years ago. (I miss that car!!) At the time a sender mount option wasn't available so I just carried around a 5/8" dowel with graduated marks on it. I had a fairly short commute so not having a guage really wasn't a problem.
My only thought is by the time you buy the tank, add on the sender mount and upgrade to -06 AN outlet, as well as fab up some sort of mounting system and remote filler- you could just about buy a purpose built tank from CCP or POL that fits our trucks perfectly.
