Re: aerotrukII,3&4

Well have run out of time, need to pack everything up before the snow starts. Still have the ATV to go over before the first snow fall. But it gives me a chance to see what it's going to look like. I like the look of the 17's on the rear. Still waiting on the remaining two tires to mount on the front.

Re: aerotrukII,3&4

Thanks for the awesome pics and info aero. However I'm a little confused with the shown engine options. I thought the last model year for the 235/261 was 1962? And that they were replaced with the 230 and 292 in the 1963 model year. Or was this not the case with the 1963 K series trucks?

I notice what seems to be a steering arm that comes off of the top of each each king pin.
Capt; I think that the 235-261 may have been used in early 63 production

Re: aerotrukII,3&4

chevrolet's new 6 cylinder engines arrived in 1963 the 230 6 cylinder, but the k model 4 wheel drives retained the 235 for one last year.1964 k models had the 230 engine.

The passenger side steering arm off the kingpin doesn't exist, maybe on the import models for right hand drive. Regular production models have the steering arm solely on the drivers side. There are a few artistic faux pas in many of the drawings that were produced, so they have to be taken with a grain of salt.

I know that it did not exist on domestic vehicles, but for export purposes it may have been illustrated; co-related to the double bump dash? Interesting what does show up once in awhile
I remember looking at an old chilton's back in the mid 60's when I worked at a gas station. it had talked about a military version of our trucks with a 3-53 detroit in them; have never heard of this anywhere else, but that was written in the day.
Did the farmer's almanac prediction come true?

Yes it snowed, no snow on the ground, snow didn't stick. The ATV is ready for plowing the walkways and sidewalks. 4WD is tucked away in the old garage beside the cottage. First chance in the spring I'll be pouring cement in the garage to replace the gravel floor in there presently. Looking forward to working indoors and on concrete, finally! Thinking of adding radiant heat to the slab floor.

I like the heated floor idea. Run the pipe when you pour it. You can always hook it up later on.

Re: aerotrukII,3&4

When we were looking at steel buildings for housing the snow removal equipment, we came across a few that had been erected with radiant floor. Comments were that the vehicles and the floor were dry by the morning, the mechanics refused to work in the old shops where they had forced air, The mechanics didn't mind crawling under the equipment cause the heat was coming up from the floor instead of trying to be forced down from above. Radiant floor did not add moisture to the air.
A specialist in radiant heating advised running the system with glycol in case of a power failure, in that the system wouldn't freeze. It's illegal but then everything else is as well. Talked to another guy who's radiant system kept the house warm for 7 days till it was uncomfortable to live in during an elongated power failure we had years ago. Never asked why he didn't power up a generator to bring the heat back up.

I was thinking about using it in a concrete hunting cabin. The glycol idea is smart.

Re: aerotrukII,3&4

Floor heat is a great idea, Quite a few dairies and shops locally use it. The heat does not blow away when the shop door gets opened.
Some forms of glycol (Propylene? Ethylene ?)were used in heating boilers that I have worked on back in the day. You might check around to see if any versions are legal in a under ground loop system.

I will pass along a trick I learned if you have the lines already installed.
A car hoist was to be installed in a shop and the installing crew was hesitant to drill the floor to set the concrete bolts. We went and bought some bags of ice and spread it out and turned up the heat and watched it melt. We found the lines and drilled safely.
If you are installing it yourself ,take pictures of where you ran the tubing before you pour concrete.

Re: aerotrukII,3&4

Yes by all means go with radiant floor heat if at all possible. It is more efficient than most other types of heat. I forget what it's called, but the tubing used is a plastic type that appears fairly easy to install yourself. There is likely enough info avaliable on the internet to be able to set it up yourself. If I'm ever able to build my own shop, I will definitely have radiant floor heat.

I like the ice on the floor trick, I plan on putting an asymmetric 2 post lift sometime in the future.

It's 2" foam 6" concrete 2 more of foam. It's block that you just stack up then pour full of mud. Easy to work with. It has plastice strips in the block that you screw the sheetrock to. On the out side it has the same strips or you can just stucco it. Once it get's warm it stays warm.

Re: aerotrukII,3&4

ICF, Insulated Concrete Form, wanted to build a house on my acreage in Ontario using ICF forms, They postponed my building permit then changed the zoning laws because of the pond on the property housing Ducks, Beavers and Frogs. So they get a place to live, I don't, yet I get to pay taxes on it. Can't sell it, nobody's allowed to build on it.
Tried to build at the cottage, the municipality changed building inspectors and she came down hard on everyone. She refused my design. Maybe because it was 640 sq. ft. with an pair of doors giving me an 8ft. opening to bring the truck in for the winter. I have no problem having my truck in my living room, seems they do.

I love ICF. I bet could build a whole house in a day. We build a two story animal hospital out of the stuff, poured it all in one pour. I want my truck in my front room. Maybe I would get more done on it.
