Door score

I scored a matching set of doors last night for my 72 k10 build. There even painted the color combo I was planning on going with. A friend of mine went down to Arkansas with his nephew to look at a shortbed box like 20 yrs ago and when they got there the box was a longbed. At this point they was pretty disappointed but ended up buying it anyway for the nephew and my friend bought these doors off the same truck the guy was parting out. Long story short he has been buying up parts for years and called him to see if he would by chance let go of anything . I have several parts trucks but everything needs more work than I'm probably wanting to fix so calling him end up being a great night.

Re: Door score

Wow. Nice!
If you can find them by me it's $500 a door
Bummer they cut speaker holes though.

Re: Door score

Nice. A couple great 71 doors (for my 72) I snagged a few years ago have the same speaker holes. 71 doors on 72 might be slightly wrong, but I'm not a purist.

Re: Door score

I'll probably just put a set of 6x9 speakers back in. Those trucks really never had any room for some good sounding speakers.

Re: Door score

Great deal!
What is the difference between 72 and 67-71 doors?

Re: Door score

72s have a screw inside that goes through the door to the outer skin and brightens up just below the wing vent. Also the regulators have a longer shaft for the new/Door panel.

Re: Door score

I drove 12 hours round trip to buy a set of "surface rust only" doors a Craigslist advertising guy told me he had. He wanted $500.00 for both. I get all the way over there and BOOM he can't find the doors.

I had a thread about this misadventure.....glad you've done so well.

I know where a set of NOS doors are but the guy wants (are you ready?) 3 grand. Ya, I passed. *But I might rethink that.

Re: Door score

Believe it or not these doors weren't the best of his collection. This last spring I found a set of front fenders that were in the best shape I've ever seen. The guy had them in his rafters in his garage since the early 80s. He post a picture of one on Craigslist and when I called he said there was 2 fenders pass/driver non matching. Long story short I drove to Council Bluffs Ia bought them up for 200.00. The passenger side is always rotted out under the battery, but not this one it's in perfect shape

Yeah, really. I cut 5-1/4'' speaker holes in the doors of my '68 stepside back in '78. It was the thing to do then. I ran my rock'n'roll at full blast too. After that I mounted a ball mount for a big spring for my CB Whip antenna, aft on the Driver side rear step fender... We had fun with these trucks! Never thinking they would become some kinda holy cows for collectors in the ''Future". Never thought we'd live this long. I did. Don't know where the other guys are.
I'm still alive, still driving my stepside, and never selling. I have a CB in the truck again, but there's nobody else out there.

Oh yeah, one tip: if you do mount speakers in the door, line the inside with mylar-silver bubble wrap, or some similar sound deadener. Cuts down on a whole lot of needless rattle.

Re: Door score

"CB back in truck but nobody else is out there".....rather sad when you think of it.

Could be I need a better antenna.
I'm still not getting a ''smart phone''. Too distracting. Too delicate. Too complicated. Too expensive.
As Vette Vet says, "Growing old is hell, but it beats the alternative."
