saginaw retainer interchange car with truck??

All right guys, I picked up a saginaw 3 speed trans w/ 7 bolt side cover a bunch of years ago. I THINK he told me it was from a '68 C10, but I can't remember.

Anyway, it has the larger 5 1/8" retainer and the bellhousing I'm using has the 4 5/8" hole. Will the Passenger car retainer bolt to the truck trans?? The bolt holes on my retainer are 4" Center to center, might not be exact.

Here are the casting numbers, this is mostly a guess as they're pretty knackered.

Shifter Cover - 3919365 and a W or M 21 8

Case - 3825647 or 3925647 and a I, L or 1 48

Tail housing - 3880042 or 3860042

Any help would be awesome or if there's anything I need to add I'll do so.
Thanks

Yes, they interchange.....while you are there, you may install a new input shaft bearing (just to be on the safe side). longhorn

Wwoooooooo! Thank you, Longhorn. That's what I was hoping for. Does that bearing come out the front I'm guessing? I tried wiggling the input shaft out but didn't move much one way or the other and I just let it be.

You know a source for a disassembly manual or instructional on these saginaw 3 and 4 speeds?

Yes, it comes out the front....there is a clip ring that you remove from the shaft, & the bearing should slide off. Be carefull not to let the shaft move forward....or you could drop the needle rollers inside the shaft tho! Up /down play is normal on the bearing, as the pilot bushing in the crankshaft "centers' everything. If it rolls free, & no in/ out play on the input, you are probably ok to use it as is (just cheap insurance to replace it while the trans is on the bench). Longhorn

With the retainer off, you shine light on the brg. & rotate it slowly looking for any pits discoloration on the balls & races. If there is none the brg. should be good.
