i went
to most of my neighbors to "ask" if they were ok with me removing my front clip.. most gave me the "AH COOL you can do that? stuff"
but what it boiled down to was "make sure no garbage in the street (which is NEVER ME there's alot of kids here) and no powertools after dark which is cool cause there's skeeters at dark .. and they are mean!
but way on my first project it when i was a young man i got "parking fines" for my 67 jeep stating from the HOA that it had to always be maintained in my garage.. and never parked in the public eye.. (i guess they dont like cammo and 36in tires)


so screw your neighbor lady she'' die of a heart attack eventually from stressing over your truck

I used Hammered paint on my cab floor, this stuff is cool it dry's fast and hard like glass.

That floor looks good, I used it for exactly the same reason, it is very hard and dries in a couple of hours. I recoated a couple of areas and was just fine. I think I will do the same thing and use it for the floor. You need to start a build thread

Thanks for the compliments Bret! and you are right on, a clean "cheap" build for a fun daily driver. Btw, I like what's going on with your truck when I get a bit more time I am going to dig in what you have been doing with the engine/alternator etc.

Man, your making me blush. I wish I had more time to visit other builds. I don't hardly ever come to the project/build section. By the time the kids go to bed and I get out in the shop and do something. Then it's time to come in and download pics then upload the describe what ever needs to be described it's time for bed after searching CL some. Most of us probably go thru the same or similiar routine. I will be keeping a eye on your build now.

I put it under the project/build section because I figured that is where it was supposed to be and I didnt want to be a dope and post in the wrong section, my father always said Attention to detail!

I think we all do go through about the same routine, I try to visit alot of builds on here because it really is great for ideas/how-tos and just good ole information.

Thank you for following my build, I will be adding some pictures of my brake line job hopefully tomorrow but I need to get it bleed and make sure that my flares are ok before I post hahaha.

Ok as promised here are some pictures from the brake job. First things first this the first time in a very long time I have done this so the bends are done by hand and not the straightest. Second in some cases it looks like there is a bend one way making it look crooked but actually it's a multi angle bend. Also, unfortunately you can't really see the nice gold shine Maybe when the sun is at a better angle I can take some more. No it's not copper tubing but rather Cunifer and that stuff is AWESOME!!! It bends easy, does not work harden too quickly, makes easy flares and will never rust!





FYI I am adding to my post on brake flares some things I did to improve making them.

I also left a large loop around the pumpkin because in the not too distant future I see a large capacity billet aluminum differential cover and I don't know how thick that is going to be so I left so extra tubing.

This the first forum I've ever been on and didn't have a clue what I was doing. If I had of known at the time my build would have been in the project/build section as well.

I have to confess if it wasn't for this forum and guys like you it probably wouldn't be very far along. I have no family here and no friends with interest in this kind of thing so I felt pretty alone, not in an emotional sense but just no support, inspiration etc. and this pretty much kept me from doing anything until I found this forum and saw all the cool rides and people with similar skills like mine making great trucks and having fun driving things not destined for Barrett Jackson. lol

you have a really nice truck there. i like the hammertone paint, where do you find that stuff? I wish i would have kept mine simple but i do other ppls cars all day so i get stupid thoughts in my head, dunno if she will ever be done. Also, i would just get the rims dipped at a chrome place to get the flaking chrome off and then bring them home and spend an eternity polishing them, but it is well worth the effort, the end resuls over chrome is astonishing . Where did you find those brake lines i have never heard of them. great job so far. and i use to have a neighbor like that also, but finally his wife pushed him down the stairs, hmmm, guess i was not the only one with a problem with him. later.

I would like to do more radical things as well further down the road but right now I just don't trust driving it since its bone stock and nothing was ever really done to it, so I have these visions of getting stuck at this HUGE intersection with me trying to push it out of traffic lol. So my first goal is to get it dependable as well as removing 40+ years of oil and grime so I can at least touch it without getting totally covered.

I get the hammered paint at Home Depot, its just regular Rustoleum, I am not sure how long it will last but for the time being I am sure it will last several years. The stuff goes on nicely and is nice and hard.

I hear you about the chrome. I got some free rims chrome rims on my truck now, they are hammer forged Weld Racing rims but the chrome is terrible!! peeling in sheets and pitting everywhere. Disclaimer: these were made before the company went BK and was bought out, I dont know what their quality is now. I have been thinking about finding someone who could strip the chrome and polish them.

I found the brake line by going to my local dune buggy shop with my stock hose, they matched up the ends. It takes an adapter at either end. If you want I can post the details. And yes you are right I could not find them anywhere in SS for the rear.

Gas tanks, gas tanks, I have spent the last 3 days here figuring out how I wanted to do my in bed gas tank. There are some great solutions out there by you guys. The one thing that prevents me from doing the popular blazer/suburban tank is that I dont want to cut into my cross sills, I will need them for hauling Anyways, I'll spare you'll the details of my thought pros and cons of all options lol

Here is my plan (subject to change through comments by any of you lol )

Tanksinc.com has a great deal on stainless 57 Bel-air tanks "only" $260 it is out of my price range so I will need sell something or just save a bit longer.

The beauty of this tank is that its only 8 1/4" tall which when mounted flush with the top of the frame rails will mean the bottom of the tank only hangs down about 4". I am going to route the filler hose through the frame rail and weld a doubler plate on the outside to reinforce the frame. I am "hoping" that I might still have enough room to mount a small-tired spare underneath the tank. Of course that might be wishful thinking lol. Then I am going to weld in a fuel door that I got of a chevy 1500 truck yesterday. What do you think, am I on the right pass or am I overlooking something?

I saw a post here once of someone who installed a passenger tank in their truck and routed it through the frame but for the life of me I can't find! If someone knows, please let me know. Thanks!
