Help with Lower Control Arm Replacement (and squarebody arm compatibility)

Hey guys,

My 72 has a bent passenger side lower control arm needing to be replaced. I am having some trouble locating a new one readily available as the truck is at a shop and I don't want to cause delays (ecklers has the arm but its on a 3-4 week back order).

I read that the squarebody arms are the same fit, but that I would have to install 72 model year ball joints to play nice with my spindles. I am also of the understanding the only other difference is the bushings went to rubber on the square bodies. Is this info correct? It seems the 73+ arms are much easier to get.

Alternatively anyone know of a vendor that sells an oe replacement for less than $120?

Thanks!

I ordered new stock ones for my truck yesterday from summit. They're the cpp arms and will be at my house in 2-3 days.

You might try www.manestruckparts.com. I needed a passenger lower and sourced one from them. Used OEM. Needed a ball joint, but the shaft and bushings were good.

The 73-87 lower ball joint is the same as a 71-72 as long as you are using a 1/2 ton lower a-arm.
3/4 ton lower a-arms have a bigger ball joint hole in them.

ball joints are the same but I hear the arm is about an inch longer, so you'll need an alignment or if you're low it may cause a problem
