Tonneau Cover - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey folks,

First happy Thanksgiving to all. Just the fact that we all, or most of us are blessed to own one of these great trucks is reason enough to celebrate.

But now on to more mundane things. After much badgering and pleading, ( I am married after all), I've been given the OK to purchase a rollup tonneau cover. It appears my two best options are either the "Lo Pro" or the Extang Revolution. Just wondering if those of you who have either of these have any pros or cons. We plan on road trips in our truck and want it to be as watertight as possible. It sounds like perhaps the Extang may be a more watertight option. Any advice out there? (The autoanything website seems to have the best pricing).

I have the Lo pro on my 2016 and have nothing bad to say about that cover.

I have the XTang and what I like about it is I only have to unsnap the area I'm using.

Just one comment about the X-Tang snap fittings and the cover itself....

I find the snap fittings "dry out"over time unless I use some silicon spray on the snaps every month or so....they get hard to unsnap and can tear out of the cover if you are not careful....

and

The cover itself needs to be maintained with a softener treatment or it gets hard and brittle...it also shrinks up in the cold. weather....

Just sayin...little bit of care needed on the X-Tang system...never had a fold over type...

^^^ These comments pertain to any fabric tonneau with upholstery snaps. I was running tonneaus back when they were custom-made with snaps in the bedside. Soft tops on K/5s, too. It's exterior upholstery so naturally needs upkeep to hold up better. None of the characteristics never bothered me. There is a technique to snapping shut in cold weather, or any weather really. You learn to close it up before the evening cools if you aren't leaving it open. It's all the nature of the beast and no biggie in my book.

I have the Extang as well. I have had it over 5 years now and it is still in great shape. But my truck lives a pampered lifestyle. I have never conditioned it, but is sits in a garage when not been driven and is only driven summers.

It is not perfectly tight and does flap a bit on the highway.

I had a much better cover on my '14 GMC it was an Access cover. I don't think they are made for older trucks. https://www.accesscover.com/ If they were I think I would buy one and replace my Extang.

What type of conditioner do people use?

In my experience (extang revolution) they are not watertight. Maybe the solid ones seal better on the edges. The front on mine doesn t seal very good at all even with the extra foam strip they give you. My purpose though was mainly to keep the sun off the wood bed, so it works good for that use. Not worth the $500 in my opinion.

The Lo Pro isn't water tight but it only let's in a small amount at the front. Sides and tailgate seem to leak very little. I may try adjusting the attachment at the front to see if that makes it better but even if it doesn't I'm not disappointed in the cover. If i wanted a completely tight seal I'd have had to pay a lot more.

I am in the market for a tonneau cover too. Which one would you guys recommend for the money? I don't need an expensive cover.

I just got round to putting mine on this evening. With the exception of being shanked on one set of clamps (must’ve got the short bed bag of clamps) I think it turned out not to bad.

I have the Extang, and like it. No issues and their Customer Service is amazing!!!

I would definitely recommend to anyone!

I only paid $260.00 from a local dealership for mine. Summit racing has all kind of covers for these trucks. Save on shipping.
