69 Chevy 4 Door EX Rail Road Truck Located

I located this truck today and spent some time looking it over. It has a pretty rusty cab and is missing the service bed that originoally came with it. Replacemnt bed does not fit with a gap in front and behind the bed

Look at photos and enjoy.

I am talking to him about a price and if I pass on it I'll post contact information.

- it is in rough shape, but it would be fun to revive it - since there were very few made that are still around...

Re: 69 Chevy 4 Door EX Rail Road Truck Located

I think I am going to have to pass on this one.

His asking price was 3500.00 perhaps not a bad price for a rare vehicle, but just too much for me to stomach.

Does this seem like a decenct price. Remember The cab is bad, Rust in roof, rockers. floors cab corners. I guess this all can be fixed but the Roof part scares me a bit.

Thanks,

I'll talk to him again today and get back if he wants me to post the number and contact information.

Thanks,
If it was a rustfree truck it might be worth that. But it doesn't even run.

"RARE" doesn't always mean its worth a lot of money. That must be what he thinks.

I was hoping it was in the $1500 range.

I'm right there with you on the pricing. I figure for that price I could pull the cab strip it down take it off and have it dipped/stripped then figureout what I had to deal with. If it was trash at least the remaining parts could be worth something.

When I stop by today or tomorrow, I was thinking about making an offer cash in this area but thats a long way from 3500 to 1500... a jump that He may not be willing to make.

...yeah, but who else is gonna pay that much for it? You have nothing to lose, and if he really wants to sell it, you never know.

Re: 69 Chevy 4 Door EX Rail Road Truck Located

Did he say it`s a former RR truck?I kinda doubt it.I doubt they`d get a big block and also doubt the would order a Custom Camper model with a/c.Also,it`s a blue truck originally. Is there a RR that would have used that color?Since these were custom ordered, which RRs generally do with even w/o the cab conversion,it would have been ordered in the RR`s color. At least it would have been ordered white and painted the RR`s color if that wasn`t white. Is it a 30 series? If so,it may have been a cab`n`chassis model w/133" WB(60" CA) before stretching. They took 9' utility beds.I wonder if it wasn`t ordered to haul a camper. Many serious set-ups used utility beds.Alaskan Campers offers them as a package.

I was only going by what the owner stated when I took a look at it. He gave me his price and I sorta lost interest in it. The passengers side door was locked so I didnt even get in and look at the SPID.

He stated it did have a utility bed on it and from the gap between the bed and cab and the rear frame poking out from the bed I'd say that what ever was on it was longer than the 8' bed on it now but a full 9 feet I dont know.

The truck is a C20 and he said it had a 1 ton rating on the rear springs and rear end.

Hey Mike...
Update... Owner swears he gave the vin to Chevy in Detroit 20 years ago and a guy called him back to tell him this was part of a 52 truck order for Southern Union Railroad. It was delivered w/out a bed and had a service bed added.

he was blown away to find that I had photos (thanks to the site) of others.

I made an offer and was turned down. But, I have a better idea of what he needs out of it. So I have to see if the little lady would say yes.

Never know till you ask.

Just sharing what the owner said. I didnt want to push him too much with what his truck was or was not. Just thought it was interesteing that the story he got came 20 years ago from Chevy and they said that SUR ordered exactly 52 and thats all that were made.

Re: 69 Chevy 4 Door EX Rail Road Truck Located

Pretty much decided this is not the truck that I "HAVE TO HAVE" Some one on the board told me that if it was a MUST HAVE for me then go for it. I think I only wanted it because it was rare. I have s suburban that i think id rather work on.

I think that if it were the a better price a deal would be done already.

I'll let you know soon.
