Pickup Truck Trailers

So, I was daydreaming about my two trucks and how one (the 69') has a messed up frame. The front shock mount hole is wallered out. And it got me thinking about trailers made out of the rear of a truck. The bed and frame with a tounge welded on.

So, I am woundering if anyone has a trailer made from our year trucks. If you have one or a pic of one post it up. Thanks yall!

Re: Pickup Truck Trailers

Seeing these two trailers makes me want one, I would have it painted to match my truck and would even put on matching wheels to my truck...

Good job guys!!!!

That is what I have been thinking about. Matching trailer, same wheels, bags maybe. Imagine your truck and trailer laying frame.

Those are great pics guys. Keep them coming.

Re: Pickup Truck Trailers

Mines made out of my 65 chassis, bed and step bumper. I cut it right where the frame kicks up under the firewall. It has great balance and I can move it around empty very easily. I also cut down a boat trailer axle to replace the rear axle housing. Mine has leaf springs, it was converted before I bought it by the previous owner. He converted the truck to 3/4 ton and wanted leaf springs. When I bought it we swapped out the 3/4 ton stuff to 1/2 ton. I drove the truck that way for several years. The rust got real bad and I swapped the a/c cab for another complete truck. Made a trailer out of the remains.

Re: Pickup Truck Trailers

I made one for a friend out of a bunch of left over parts once. I can't remember where I made the cuts to pinch the frame but all I did was cut the upper and lower flanges and then fold the rails to a point. I added some square tubing and some gussets at the front so it would accept a standard hitch coupler and it was good to go. It has good balance, tows like a dream and is handy as all he11. I borrow my "parts" back once in a while to haul stuff and I know that I'll make another for myself some day.

Sorry to post a picture of a f**d, but it would be cool if someone would do something like this with a Chevy front end.

We have a '64 Chevelle charcoal grill at the shop. We are going to flat black it and put old school flames on it. We used it to cook rib eyes for the Christmas dinner at the shop and it cooks great!

Re: Pickup Truck Trailers

I have made several like 67 C-30 posted and would recommed that you make one with leaf springs. The ones made out of the coil bounced and swayed too much.

Oh man! I'm loving the front end on there. I foresee one of my parts trucks getting it's nose cut off in the future!

Re: Pickup Truck Trailers

Those are some neat trailers there. Once I get my truck going maybe I can build one myself.
I agree about the coil springs under the trailer. They might tend to bounce and sway a bit without the weight of the rest of the truck to hold it down. Could be stiff shocks or even a sway bar would keep it under control.

Re: Pickup Truck Trailers

I had though about putting one together to pull behind my Blazer that would accept the Blazer top. Then on long trips, I could cruise without the top and if a rain storm hit, I'd have the top right there. Guess I need to get started on the Blazer, that way I can warrant working on a trailer, LOL.
