Angry Took a big hit today......but Patina Azul will survive

I over heard my Boss saying he was gonna work on Saturday so I volunteered to come in and make some extra cash.My boss and I went to lunch and on the way back we were going to get ice and water. We were on the inside lane and
traffic was backed up on the outer lane. The person stopped in the outer lane waved another driver from the parking lot on thru right into me.I didn't even have time to hit the brakes.

I got out and was screaming the F-bomb as I walked around my mangled beauty.I cried a little bit too.I badly wanted to choke the young woman who just smashed my pride-n-joy but I kept my calm and handled it well imo.The damage is almost identical to what happened to Heavy Eavy's Burb as was our Burbs. The frame is bent and torn so I will need another frame for sure.I'll need another front clip, radiator, fan.heater core/ac assembly, bumper and brackets.

My son loves this truck as much if not more than I do.Getting her back on the road is a must.I'm not gonna give up on her.Any help I can get with parts and help will be genuinely appreciated.I am a carpenter and work very hard for a living and cash is always tight.

I do need help getting a solid number on the value of my Burb r when the adjuster comes to have a look and low ball me.I dont want to get raked over the coals so any help in that area will be genuinely appreciated as well. Thanks Y'all,be good

Here's the damage done..................

Sorry to see the damage. Dangit why are people doing this to our vehicles! Guy told me he didn't see me. REALLY ... it was 9 foot tall , orange, had 36" tires and dual flowmasters. If you did not see me you shoulda heard me !!! Look it up on NADA website. should still be there. They let me keep my Blazer (72) and gave me $3500. They are not supposed to give you less than low blue-book. Negotiate! And remember it's YOUR truck not theirs!

How bad is the frame bent? I would think that if you had the front clip off the frame could probably be fixed. It would thinkd that would be easier than taking the body off and finding a new frame. If I take one down to the bare frame I always end up doing a complete restoration.

The loss of the patina is the worst part. Hope you will find a front clip to match!

That really sucks, plus the insult to injury by ruining the patina, but it could have been worse.

Re: Don't let this happen to you

glad you and ur boss are ok. But it really, really sucks about the truck. Sorry to hear. I would be cautious, as you sound already, because "HER" ins company may be inclined to total it. It's worth more to folks like us, but they'll go by bluebook and cost to repair. I'm guess the latter far exceeds the former, even though we all know this truck is worth more. Might need to have your insurance company help be an advocate for your case if you feel you're getting hosed. Hopefully this works out, please keep us posted and I wish you the best. Exact same thing happened to me in a 57 Bel Air many years ago and I wanted to cry. Ok, I did cry.

Re: Don't let this happen to you

It's always good when you see/hear the words "we're okay" and I'm glad you and the boss weren't hurt. It's always sad when you have to wrestle with insurance (and other people and agencies) not likely to assign the same significance to the value of these old trucks. Hopefully, you'll get everything worked out. Good luck!!

Re: Don't let this happen to you

This is going to be a though fight. They are going to try to total it. Start by collecting all your receipts showing what you have in it. Start researching sales and values for like trucks. Do you have collision? If yes your insurance may be able to help.

The frame is bent pretty badly and torn a bit.I think another frame is in order.

It looks like the door got buckled a little bit at the hinges and now sags but closes still.I hope it didn't get to the A-pillar.My boss' elbow put nice dent on the inside of the door just above the arm rest.He is a big guy.

Re: Don't let this happen to you

They are going to low ball you. Best tatic IMHO is to tell them to find you a replacemnt truck.

I know that's not what you want, but it's going to be really hard to get them to repair it, and they will low ball you on the value, so really your only option is to insist that they find you a truck of the same year in equal shape.

If they can't, then they may come back and offer you more cash to go away.

Remember, you do not have to settle!!! If they start giving you crap, go to small claims and serve papers on the person that hit you, that will get them on the phone with there insurance also, now you got twice the pressure on the agent to settle the claim.

Re: Don't let this happen to you

I'm not going to let them low ball me.I want to be driving my baby like it never happened.I will get an attorney if necessary.I've seen quite a few posts on the site where people with our trucks have multiple issues with getting their moneys worth after a collision.I was definitely not at fault and the acting officer said she will most definitely be at fault in the accident report. At least I have that in my favor. In all the confusion I messed up by not getting a list of names of the witnesses.I'm kicking myself for that as I'm typing.I hope this all pans out.I'm not giving in

Re: Don't let this happen to you

I would recommend getting an attorney. I do a lot of property damage cases in south carolina. If you were in sc, You should get the cost to repair the truck (unless the cost to repair is over 75% of the value of the truck, in which case it is "totaled" and you are the entitled to get that money less any salvage value and keep your vehicle). You should also get loss of use (cost to rent a vehicle of comprable style per day) and any depreciation (called diminution in value or "d.i.v." In insurance lingo) if the truck isnt totaled.

Insurance companies HATE paying anywhere near real depreciation for any car and that's where the fight will come up.

I don't know what texas law is for property damage, but remember this... Insurance companies dont make money by paying it out. No matter how nice they sound on the phone, they are out to pay you the least amount of money possible.

Just my 2 cents....
