Control arm bushings, Help - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Does anybody have a trick to remove the bushings from the control arm, the manual calls out alot of special tools, could I just use a bolt in the sleeve and pound it out?

I just did mine about 2 months ago. I replaced all the steering linkage, ball joints and control arm bushings. The bushings actually come out fairly easy with a 3/4" socket set. I bought a cheap set from Harbor Freight Tools for $35.00. The actual bushings look like a very large nut on the end of the control arm shaft - there will also be grease fittings on them unless they've been broken off. I also recomend you replace the rubber grease seals that are on the inside of the bushings. I bought some aftermarket seals/bushings. Bushings were fine but the seals were not made the same and in turn didn't work. For about $12.00 you can still get new ones from your local Chevy dealer that will work great (BTW: they discontinued the original grease seal part number but the alternate part number will work great... They will know what you're talking about).

Go Autozone (Loan-a-tool)and get a Crow's Foot If you don't already have one. they pop right out.
