Dale the owner was there, and is such a personality. He will talk to anyone who enters the door. We watched him fire up 2 bikes as he held open discussions with everyone around
I wish I could upload the video

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

I'm just getting up to speed. This is awesome! I hate to ask - but did you make it to Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car museum in pigeon forge when you went through? I know it's too late if you didn't, but it is my favorite museum, period. The wheels thru time museum looks awesome too. I wondered who bought that little blue super - congrats, really like it! Have a great rest of your trip.

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

Brad said I was nervous. I was. This was early on when we got there, before I had met Andy. And really understood how down to earth these guys really are. Like I said in an earlier post, I'm not a motorcycle buff but What's in the barn was one of my favorite programs to watch. being at the museum is just like being on one of their shows

What a day. This road trip is starting out great😀😀😀

No didn't even know about the museum. Maybe next time! driving out of there today I said to B (Brad). Maybe next year we fly out? Find something to buy, and drive it home. Each day is full of surprises. Jocko, I always check out your threads. I love different trucks. This one is another one I have never seen

Here is the spid. It belongs in your (two tone/ no white) thread

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

I was getting ready to mention Floyd Garrett's but jocko beat me to it.lol

Wheels of Time has a motorcycle that a friend of mine had here in Harrison. The one he is starting in the picture looks like it. It was featured on an episode of the TV show.

Keep us posted on your planned route.

Now I am subscribed.

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

Ok. A little more info on the route for the next few days

We are heading for Bristol Virginia for the game tonight. Then we will head up into Kentucky to Bowling Green and visit the Corvette museum While we're in the area hopefully we will also stop at Mammouth cave national park.

From there, on our way north into Illinois if it fits in I want to go through Louisville and check out Muhammad Ali Center

So far in Illinois the plans would be to see Boarman's Chevy Bel Air Museum in Shelbyville

And Chevrolet Hall of Fame in Decatur

You can check out any of these places websites to see what they are all about

Thanks to everyone following along. Please feel free to chime in if you have any ideas of other places of interest. This is more of a journey to see things along the way, than a race to our destination. There is only so many days available, but no route or stops are set in stone.

I love driving these trucks, they fit like your most comfortable Broke in hat. But yesterday I had to give B his bit of time to drive too

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

You let him drive??? That's mighty big of you... heh heh

That's cool you got to chat with Dale Walksler. He truly loves the bikes. He was born into the right family for that, but so were many others who have no such passion. He's quite the colorful character. I could tell some stories, but... (he does a great job of that). I wish the truck show was still in Maggie Valley.

You're right about the area being a short bed hot spot. Between SoCal and the S/E I think more the better half were sold there. Even with them slipping out of these regions they still have a heavy presence. That's what's neat about your taking one from NC to CA... hot spot to hot spot.

Mammoth cave is awesome. Man, if I knew you were heading up that way I might have been tempted to make a '72 rendezvous in my K2500.

While in "Looieville," you need to go to Louisville Slugger. It's just two or three blocks from Muhammad Ali Center and well worth it.

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

Ok. On the road to Bristol. Had to break out the music

The play list :
Started with
Kid rock-only God knows why

Next
Chris Stapleton-Tennessee Whiskey

Finished with
Cry of love-highway jones

With some others along the way

Check any of these bands out if you haven't listened to them before
What do you think?

It's pretty cool when you both like the same music

Cruising down the highway singing along(nobody can see😀😀 anyway)

A tidbit of info for you guys other no stereo in your truck
But have a smart phone
The EU ROLL wireless speaker.

It sounds killer
Just throw it up on the dash and drive

We then moved on to listening to college game day

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

You need to stop at the nearest Pilot gas station and grab the cheapest CB radio you can find for such a long road trip! Stick a mic in your son's hand in post 81 (I actually thought there was one when I first looked) and enjoy a little smokey and the bandit. Oh, and I LOVE the 559 paint. What a nice truck.

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

I've only done a cross-country trip alone in a 60s vehicle once (pre-cell phone days) and everyone should do it at least once! Hope you guys have a great time. Plan for delays and accommodate them when they happen!

If you get to Louisville on a weekday, you might get a tour of the F*rd Super Duty plant off 265- (Louisville Truck Plant) They make all the heavy stuff and Expeditions.... Be interesting to see what they think of your truck in the lot...

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

I'm close to Bowling Green if you need anything on the way through. And at the Corvette Museum, check to see if Art's Corvettes is open. It's on the left as you drive into the museum. Huge showroom and all of his stuff is for sale. I think it's like $5 to walk through and check them all out and worth every penny. He has some really cool cars and is always bringing new stuff through.

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

Looks like a really fun trip! Best of luck with the new truck - my Suburban has, cumulatively, been from Oregon to New York to Texas over its 330,000 miles, and I hope to take it abroad again before too many more years pass. If you go from Bowling Green to Louisville you'll go within 35 miles of me - might have to try to chase you down for a picture.

I upload video to Photobucket, then it will post to here using IMG code. Do you have an account there or other hosting site? If this works out, do me a favor. No father/son singing duets! Please?? LOL

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

Time for some Waffle House !!!

All the hotels are over $300 bucks a night anywhere near Bristol.

Maybe if I eat breakfast, my body will think it is morning, and we can keep driving till we can find the $100 hotels

Re: 72 Super Roadtrip-Coast to Coast

Ironically, you and I swapped coasts this week... you started in my neck of the woods, and I'm starting somewhat near yours.

My wife and I arrived in LAX yesterday morning. We rented a Mustang Droptop (I had reserved a Camaro, but apparently that doesn't mean anything to Hertz...), drove down to San Diego and have been running up the coast. We're going the whole way to Seattle, WA.

WOW, there is some seriously nice iron here... and I've seen more exotic cars in the last two days than my entire 35 years combined.
