Noisy Belts

https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...ht=noisy+belts

I just dug this up from the search area. I'm curious to know if anyone else has tried Dielectric grease to their belts to silence them. If so, How much will do the trick?

Re: Noisy Belts

I would think that Dielectric grease would make them more likely to slip. If they are squeaking or screeching you should try V grooved belts.

X1 ^ it works , Takes the glaze off the pulleys . Just rub a bar of soap on the belts while the engine is off

I've used bar soap a few times. It does work but only for a day or two.

Re: Noisy Belts

I have used dielectric grease to fix squeaking belt on my 96. Use just a little bit. Baby power works too.

I tried that one time, many years ago. Didn't work worth beans, and made a sticky mess that was hard to clean up. Never again. YMMV

Re: Noisy Belts

IMHO- Belt dressing is a car salesman stuff.
Save your money. Clean the pulleys and sand them lightly and put a new belt on it. Never fails. The belts with the notches on the inside work better than the smooth ones. They are rated for higher horsepower transmission. They are identified by the same number but have an X as part of the number.

X2 on this, new belts, tighten them up to spec, and sand the grooves in the pulleys slightly.

After 50 years those pulley grooves are highly polished.

Take the belt off and soak it, letting it saturate and dry...yeah it does only work for a couple months.
