Re: Cat 3116 build in 1972 IH Pickup

K. just the title hooked me! I've seen Travelettes with Cummins swaps, IDI IHC swaps, 6.5L swaps, and powerstroke swaps. I've ALWAYS liked Cat engines. I'm in!

Re: Cat 3116 build in 1972 IH Pickup

should have 1/4" bleed lines on it... maybe... I have been around too many C7s to remember too much about 3116s. I would fill through t-stat, but if I remember, Cat engines do air-bleed themselves durring filling... could just always fill with 200deg coolant!

Re: Cat 3116 build in 1972 IH Pickup

I'm in. My truck is a IHC '65 d1300, 4x4 with a 304. I'd like to swap in a diesel some day. I was thinking more along the lines of a 7.3, but I have to admit that CAT is going to be cool.

The cat is cool but if you are going 7.3 use the idi version no HEUI bs to ddeal with

But can I get awesome horsepower without direct injection? I know you can boost the old 7.3 and 6.9s. But isn't the horsepower still much less than the "power stroke" diesels? I can't pretend to know much about diesels, but I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Not trying to highjack your thread. You can answer by PM if you would rather.
