Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Really enjoying the thread, every victory you have along the way, makes us root for you all the more.

The title situation has to be a HUGE victory. I haven't tackled the title situation with mine yet, it should go smooth but you never know what kind of legality crap they can come up with, finger crossed on this end.

Keep up the good work and posts, Jim

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Good deal! Did they dyno it for HP rating or just checking for vibations, etc at speed???

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Thanks all!!

What Stepside Jim said: you never know what they will look for and what they'll find, it's just who is going to do the inspection...
Luckely I had a few small things that I could repair real quick, so now we're legal!!

OrrieG,
it's not a dyno, here the brakes are tested.
You must have a certain deceleration on all wheelbrakes and not to much brake difference between left and right on one axle, that's what they test on this machine:

Now on to building the little new Hot Rod shed and then....the fun really begins!
Change axles, add powersteering and powerbrakes, change the fuel to LPG, liquid gas, and make sure I can drive normal petrol too.
I want to change color too, make the cab inside a nice place to be (it already is!!), and then, when all goes as planned, drive the heck out if it by April

Wish me luck

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Hi Kees

I'm English living over in Bussum.
I was at Sacremento swapmeet in april and bought a 58 shortbed stepside.
I also bought an 81 XJ6 over here for the suspension etc so will be going the same route as you.
I've read your thread as I'm interested in how the RDW inspection process works. In UK you just send off the documents and get the registation back in the post!
Thanks for all the info you've posted here.

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Hey Nick!
Welcome here!

Dutch registration is a bit worse here in Holland.
You have to have the original title and the "Invoer documenten" from the Dutch customs (douane).
Then you make sure the truck is ready for technical inspection, thus everything must work according the Dutch law.
There also must be a complete VIN number in the truck, if not, you get an investigation about your VIN. Costs extra.....
If all is correct, VIN and technical, you get your Dutch title, after you paid ofcourse
That's all
If you want to know more, just ask and I will try to explain it to you. PM is good too.

Oh, and make sure you make a "buildthread" with lots of pics!!
We all love pics!
And you get your help when needed

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

thanks Kees

The truck arrived in July and I bought the Jag back in May but haven't really done much to it yet because of work on the house etc...
Once that boring stuff is over I can get back onto the truck
i will start a build thread soon, even maybe some pics of what I've bought.

will get in touch by PM for any advice... that'd be much appreciated

Nick

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Looks worse than it is Mark

We moved the truck from 30 miles away to 5 miles away from my house.
That saves me a lot of traveling time to work at it

At the new place we are building a shed to work in during the wintertime. We were planning to work in a big partytent, but we decided to build a new workshop

We started with pruning in the garden a bit:

Next we defined the space we had to build it on, and I must say, it's really a lot bigger than a partytent

We are now two weeks on the go with the build in our sparetime

The first roof and side plate are on it now, this afternoon we did the last supports for the roof, so now it's only the big side plates and the roof.
It should be done next week so I can go inside before Christmas

Wall framing looks really light compared to what I am used to designing...but probably the convention for EU??

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

After a little disturbance from the local government...we went on with the build of our little shed.
The neighbours complained...we won
So today we did finish the big work and finally drove the truck inside his new home for the comming months!
All we have to do is some little things that are not so important, we do that as we walk by, so to speak.

My partners in crime:

Inside finally!!!

We managed to get the Jag stuff inside also, so I did't had to break my back on my own
Boy that English stuff is heavy!!

Also today my new tires arrived so I can put them on their rims Saturday.
When that done, I can finally get on with the truck, and trail fit IFS on it and measure what rideheight I want.
Next week the FUN really begins!!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Thanks Kim and Ogre!!
I am really happy with it.
It's not so big, it's 5 meter by 8 meter long (16,5 foot by 26,3 foot) but for me it's big enough

Now I can slowly tear it apart and make it my own.
After I get the tires on the rims I'm ready to go wrenching...

I will put a lot of pics here, so when I go wrong, please correct me, I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions along the build, your input and critics would be greatly appreciated!!

Until next time!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Thanks guys!!

Gary, the complaint was easy, the neighbours didn't see this comming
The shop ALMOST take their view away, it's in the back yard of a good friends house, you must look that way to see it....

I think these "old" people aren't used to Dutch Hot Rodders
I want to see their faces when I'm ready

Wishing everybody a great start of the New Year, take care of yourselfs!!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

No, I'm not like that Gary, I was just jokin'.
But the complaints were real.....

New year, new start!
Got the truck inside, together with the axles, so why not start right away?

Too bad I didn't had time, but did a few things, such as mount the tires on the rims and took some parts off of the axle so that I can grind the ears off first thing on Monday
I go for a solid mount or welding, not rubber-mount the front axle.
With that done I can sort out the ridehight with the axle under the truck, before I take the front apart.
Hope it works the way I want....

Sorry for the bad pics...
