Re: Pic Thread: Customized Hot Wheels, etc

You should be working for Hotwheels designing toys for them as yours are much better than a lot of theirs .

I have done a couple just not with that casting for the cab, those all started as the vintage Excalibur, Sampson 2, or King crunch monster trucks. I have pics I'll post in my Greenlight thread of the custom Greenlight pieces.

Re: Pic Thread: Customized Hot Wheels, etc

Nice detail job. These look more real soon as you put authentic colors on them. I have bought other people's custom jobs. I can't believe they do what they do and glue it back together while leaving the inside of the bed chrome or whatever the interior is. Makes all the difference when that is painted to match.

Like I said, I'm a sucker for built customs... if I like them. I just got this one for being unique. I buy some just to see what they did and this is one. I got it from loosecars.com*, so no package and it's not here yet. It seems to be coming from another country because they ask what currency. I never saw this color of camper top so I assume it is custom, although there was no mention of that

Re: Pic Thread: Customized Hot Wheels, etc

The lime green truck came in today. I was concerned the seller had glued the camper on backwards, but am happy to say it just sits on there with four tabs inside the bed. I now have the rounded end up front and there's a window/hatch on the back.

Look good. I wish Jada would have done more '72 Cheyennes. Now it's the Greenlights. I like the custom 4wds because they aren't monster trucks. Greenlight needs to make a 4wd chassis version. That open things up for swaps bigtime

None are my creations:

Nice job on both. I'd like to build a white GMC long Wideside 4wd like my full scale one. I have a crapped out old Ertl GMC Fenderside donor. Just need to work that grille or whole cab into a longbed 4wd conversion with realistic size tires.

Re: Pic Thread: Customized Hot Wheels, etc

I haven't bought any to customize lately. Didn't do any over the winter. I'd like to do a full batch of '67 or '68 colors like I did these three. I need to find ones with wheels I like or go deeper with wheel swaps. All the black and colors wheels just don't get it for me.

Here's one I did years ago. Could be in the "not an el camino" thead. What would a '56 Ranchero look like? Mid engine of coarse.

Re: Pic Thread: Customized Hot Wheels, etc

How about a Ute, no mid-engine? That's a cool creation. Maybe Hot Wheels would like to see it.

I have a GMC panel I tried to rob the grille from to swap in a '62 Chevy p/u. I jumped into it in a kind of rush, just thought I'd try cutting it away when I had time waiting for someone. I should have thought it through better. I took a multi-master tool with steel blade and tried to cut between grille and bumper, but blade was too thick and the bottom of the grille would be lost. Looks like I need another panel for another attempt. I'm going to try to just grind the bumper away, go at it that way. I think it will fit but will be a lot of tedious grinding/dremmel work. I have a "project '62" for this in grey primer

Re: Pic Thread: Customized Hot Wheels, etc

It's getting to be that time of year. I try not to go too far with truck decorations at Christmas. It wouldn't be hard to have a ton. I have one of those HW Custom 69 electric contractor (green) versions with a loop in the top for a hook to hang on the tree. I should blow that apart and give it a Christmas paint job, like bright shiny red and make a snowflake decal for the hood and a tree in the bed.

I used a real piece of the tree in the front yard. Cleared it, but it is very brittle already. I've had to touch it up with some green paint as well. I would just use fake HO scale tree next time.
