Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

I think the kid at Oreilly's gave me the wrong pump, but it looked extremely similar.

New pump had so much paint in the threads that I had to run tap through them before I could even install.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

There are two 1978's and two 1988's in my local upullit yard, will your bracket work for those two years? And will my 1968 pitman arm work for those two years? If so please send me an invoice to mjminino@gmail.com

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

The 1978 steering box falls within the '68-'86 C series truck range stated in this thread. If the 1988 steering box is on a '87-'91 R series truck or Suburban it will also work. If the 1988 is a pickup it will not. The main difference between the '78 and '88 steering box will be the SAE versus Metric with O-ring hose fitting style. Your '68 pitman are should work if it is for a power steering box, but why not just use the one that is on the steering box you choose?

Mainly because I wanted everything the same year for future repairs or what not. Less I have to remember the better. And thinking about it the Cardone Industries 27-7501 box is a better way to go can get one on eBay for 166$. Gotta buy the other pitman arm anyways which is nice because it is 20 dollars cheaper. If I get the other one it'd be $37.99 from my upullit yard plus another 32 for the rebuild kit plus 20 dollars more for the pitman arm. The extra 95 is worth not having to go out in the cold (like 3 degrees here) with dismantling it, cleaning it up, and rebuilding it (hoping i did it right). I found out that info after I had asked the question here.

If you could I'd appreciate the invoice including the shaft. I still have your impala disk brake invlice. Just figuring everything out so i only have to order once and have everything come to me at the same time.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Hello Sir, just have a few questions to help streamline this for me. I want to add power steering to my 65 C10. I just scored a running Chevy 350 TBI that I will be dropping into the 65. What all do i need in order to add power steering? Brackets, gear box, tube and flange, pitman arm, idler arm, and any other connectors. i would like to buy your kit from you, but i'm not sure what gear box i need that would bolt right up to your mount. I don't mind buying a new gear box at all. If you could just list those out i can get some money coming your way for everything, but the gear box. Thanks alot.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

If you are just adding power steering to an otherwise stock C10, you will need a '68-'86 C series, or '87-'91 R series steering box and corresponding pitman arm. If your TBI350 has it's power steering pump, a '81+ steering box would simplify the hose connections. This is because after about 1980 the hose fitting style changed from SAE to metric with an O-ring.

Forgot to add..
If there is any extra pieces you think i may need for the conversion other than the pump, brackets and hoses..let me know please.

I saw that you offered a sleeve and rag joint flange for use with original column..i'm sure I will need those as well.

Thanks Captain Fab!

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Hey John,
I'm putting the old 62 back together slowly. My truck was converted to PS sometime before I got it, they used a gear off of 78, everything worked ok but they had not installed a spacer plate... I would like to put it back together using your plate, but hopefully without having to punch more holes in the frame. If I can make a drawing of the existing hole pattern would you compare it to your mount? Used your axle perches to put the 12 bolt rear in, and just installed your booster bracket and hung my new booster/master cyl, thanks for providing the great products and sharing your knowledge of our series trucks!

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

The '68-'86 C series and '87-'91 R series steering boxes all have the same bolt pattern.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Captain Fab,

Attached is a picture of my frame. Will your plate cover most of the holes? Does the plate require welding to fully reinforce or can it be used as a spacer?

Thanks,

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Need ordering info for PS bracket for 1966 GMC 2500 to use 1989 GMC R3500 PS box from donor truck.

Do I need to find a 1+1 PS Pump or can I modify my donor trucks Hydro boost PS pump to fit?

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

The adapter plate should cover most of that mess, but likely not 100% of it. It is advisable to stitch weld the plate for maximum strength, but it is not absolutely necessary. However on your frame I would advise either stitch welding the plate or at least doing something about the jagged edges of those holes. Those jagged edges are all points for possible cracks to develop.

I will send you a PM with ordering and payment info. If the donor pump will work on your engine configuration, you can use it. You will just need to cap or plug the second return port on the pump reservoir.
