Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Like Tim said, just cut the whole top of the spid off. No worries then

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Why the difference in number of digits in option codes? 3 vs. 6?

This is my Orange '72
Hard to read. Has a tilt wheel, disc brakes and big block. Not sure how rare.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Its hard to do a covincing fake SPID. Most attempts are clearly evident to people who know.
Take for example this truck a "Super Cheyenne/10".
It is not the SWB Cheyenne Super/10 claimed.
The SPID, someone tried to reproduce, is clearly wrong in many ways from the font to the layout. Not to mention it is VIN and model coded for a C/20 and probably a Promo Package "C" Highlander at that, based on the codes used. Notably the YG8 and the 618 ORANGE PLAID.
To me it looks like everything after the trim and paint codes were added as it was retyped.

Rare is always hard to quantify and more so as people tend to equate rarity with value that more often than not, isn't there. Your Promo Package "C" YG8 with 618 orange plaid is a nice truck in good colors. If it were a Custom Camper too Jocko would probably have already contacted you (kidding). In reality it is on par with pretty much any other C20 with 402/TH400 and A/C in similar condition.

Thanks for the SPID.
Very Nice!

To answer your question on the prefix and suffix numbers and letters. These were used mainly on early trucks to differentiate the specific option configuration a truck had. Generally they do not apply to most of the trucks on the board to any great extent and often not used thus the three character codes.
An example of this is on a 67 the chromed bumper rpo code (V37) did not indicate front or both, the suffix numbers did.

That has huge potential!! You can see DF2 camper mirror (a la Highlander) holes on the doors.

It sure seems legit but im working him on the price. Do you have a range you think its should sell for? It hasnt ran in a few years but is not locked up. Interior is about the same as the outside... but its all there.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

I concur with most of what SS Tim has to say

As for a price range - tough. More pics would help. As shown and if basically complete I'd say $3500-6000 as a project. If I could get my hands on it I'd restore it back to original with a few minor tweaks. I may have one spare slider window to get you going. FWIW as a point of comparison, a buddy recently paid $4000 for a non-running Highlander 4wd (more common) Blazer that was mostly complete sans original motor.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Alabama GMC
Open the picture on your computer resize the picture to make it smaller then save it under another name and then try to reattach it.
There is a program you can download to help with the resizing http://www.irfanview.com/
If you continue to still have issue's with the size then send me a private message and I will see what I can do

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

that's an interesting one - the plaid should be "flat" - notice this plaid material is pleated like the strips of a Cheyenne or Cheyenne Super's seat.

Can those seats be original? Same code, but nothing like ours.

Nice truck with the Dark Olive roof on a Med. Olive truck and the 613 Avocado trim. The YG8 Highlander Promo Package "C" bundled the options included in "A" & "B" and added the A/C and tint.

Did your truck originally have black or woodgrained lower bodyside moldings?

Does it have the Deluxe emblem centered under the Custom emblem?
