transmission GURUS

Transmission GURUS....

2004 Silverado crew... 5.3 / 4L60 /3.42

Is there an adjustment or something for the kickdown. Use to it was a cable, tbis electronics I just don't know ...

Takes off fine, shifts fine, but lags when you slow to go around a corner or slow and speed back up because it doesn't downshift unless I step on it.... what could cause this. I've built trucks with 3.42 gears and wasnever as lazy as this

All my trucks with 4l60s were always sluggish in the down shift. Didn't matter whether it was the V6 or V8 models. They just didn't seem to have much omph in their shifts. Especially if it has to come out of OD, then down again to accelerate.

You can get it crisper with programming, but no manual adjustments can change things.

They make performance shift kits and valve bodies for them, but I believe they fetch a healthy price.

Tuning is the only way to correct that if it's possible without creating an overactive kickdown, If you have oversize tires.....You must correct the tire roll out in the tune first.

If it's staying in 2nd.....You may not want it to kickdown to 1st Considering the ratio spread between 1st & 2nd.

Yes, I should add that you can do it with a shift kit as well. What I meant is that there is no external mechanical adjustment (like a TV cable) that can change things. Programming can increase line pressure. On my 4L60E (before I went T56), it had a shift kit along with a slightly higher stall converter. It would easily spin the tires when it hit 2nd gear (and that was on 295 rear rubber). If you are doing a shift kit AND programming, you need to really go over things with the tuner and make sure the line pressures aren't too high (along with shift points, rear gears, tire height, etc).
