Steering column length for 67 cab

As the title says I am trying to figure out what steering column length I need for my 67. I have the original column but it is one long solid shaft with a collapsible section. Based on what I have found on how to measure I need a 33" which is not a common size. The old one is a three on the tree and I want to go to an automatic on the column and tilt. So for you gents that have converted or replaced you column what length did you use?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Steering column length for 67 cab

I have a different truck(72 GMC), but hopefully this helps.

I bought a Summit Tilt column. I couldn’t figure out the correct length so I got the 31”, as my goal was to get the steering wheel away from me lol.

They sell a bolt on coupler with a u-joint for the end of column to shaft. What I found was, that the end of the column accepts the original upper intermediate shaft. The column is hollow at least to the point that the shaft goes into it a foot or so. So if you got the 33” you’d be good.

I got a u-joint and welded it up in the middle for fun, and pushed the column forward til it hit the dash and called it a day...

Re: Steering column length for 67 cab

Thanks for the info cablescum. The pictures really helped with the explanation. Since you got a 30" to work a 32" or 33" should work for me. But I will hold off for a bit to see what others have say.
