Thanks!!! I'm hoping to have it running & driving by November and then I'm going to consider restoring the body. Just have to keep plugging away at it a little at a time. I got the driver side rear spring mounts ready to be permananetly bolted on last night, I'm hoping to get them bolted up Sunday. I didn't to anything today...went shopping at the local junk yard and found some goodies for my 83 Z28

Re: 1963 Chevy 4x4 conversion

Got the driver side rear spring hangars done. I just need some longer bolts for the springs and I need to make a brace for the shackle mount.

Here's the pics:

Now I'm gonna take some measurements of the driver side and double check the passenger side and then get the passenger side mounts bolted up. Thanks!!!

Re: 1963 Chevy 4x4 conversion

I did some measuring on the rear suspension today and found the passenger side front spring mount needs to be moved back about 3/8". I plan on moving it, but I was wondering is 3/8" really much to worry about? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: 1963 Chevy 4x4 conversion

If the mount is moved back the rear axle will be back on that side makeing it track off to that side,I think you should get it as close as possible, also not sure but dont the the rear shackles usually mount close to verticle ?

Re: 1963 Chevy 4x4 conversion

Just a little update. Other projects have taken priority(getting ready for a big rabbit show in June) , but I still try to get some work done on the beast.

The front mounts for the rear springs done and bolted. All that's really left for them is paint but I'm not worrying about that now...have to get the truck rolling. I have to drill a couple holes for the passenger side shackle mount and eventually make a brace for the shackle mounts and that's it for the rear suspension....for now. Thanks!

Re: 1963 Chevy 4x4 conversion

Another update. I got the rear spring shackle mounts fully bolted in, but I need to make a brace for them to be road worthy...I'll post pics of that when the time comes. For now it's good enough for me to put some wheels and tires on the back so I can get my beer keg/jack stands repositioned so I can continue on with the front suspension. It is on the back burner for now until I can get my 1960 GMC 1/2ton running and driving reliably. Thanks!

Re: 1963 Chevy 4x4 conversion

Thanks!!! It's been a slow go with my health problems and other projects taking priority. I was hoping to have it on wheels and tires by now, but you know how things change when you make other plans. Once I get my 60 GMC going good, I'm going to try and really focus on the 63...knowing my luck it will be the rainy season by then.

Re: 1963 Chevy 4x4 conversion

Sorry, none yet and probably won't have any until summer next year. My girlfriend and I decided to go our separate ways and I've got a huge mess of a house to clean up and fix up and I have also been reorganizing my shop. The shop is big enough to fit 2 trucks and have room to work on both. But the way I had it set up I couldn't do that. Hoping to get the house and shop squared away over the winter so when spring comes I can really focus on my truck projects.
