GMC Headlight Trim Surround Question ?

This is for the 4 eye experts, I found a real nice pair of GMC headlight trim surrounds "Rings" at a local wrecking yard. They cleaned up real nice with a little metal polish. When I went to install them, no way will they fit ? I did not realize there was a difference between the early slant nose models and later ones? I also found out they are not Stainless, I was under the impression GMC'S had Stainless Grills and Chevys had Anodized Metal?

Re: GMC Headlight Trim Surround Question ?

GMC's were chrome plated steel grills.

Re: GMC Headlight Trim Surround Question ?

I had my rechromed, so I've got to assume John is correct. My '70 doesn't have rings per se, it has a "plate" with two holes (for the headlights). Sorry the outboard one is a little crooked, I have to add a notch to the bucket to get the aftermarket lamp assembly properly vertical.

Re: GMC Headlight Trim Surround Question ?

I had a 71 GMC. The grille, headlight rings and "hood bar" were all just chrome plated steel. Im not sure if the slant hood models were different from later models. Have you double checked to be sure you don't have them swapped side to side or upside down?

Re: GMC Headlight Trim Surround Question ?

Trying to confirm if they are the same between 67 & 72 ? I tried to mount the pair I picked up at a salvage yard but had no success. Trying to mount them on a 71 ? I had a 68 with painted "Plates" "Surrounds" "Rings" what ever you call them and if I remember correctly, they looked thinner front to back ? Anyone know for sure? Part numbers ?

Still trying to determine if the trim is same or different between 67-68 & later years ?

Re: GMC Headlight Trim Surround Question ?

Have you checked the parts book? Find it in the book for your year, and the year you wish to install it on, and see if its the same number.

I would imagine there are chrome and bare steel (for painted front ends), but other than that I cannot see why there'd be more than those two variants (for GMC, anyway) each year.

Use an SOS pad to clean them.

Re: GMC Headlight Trim Surround Question ?

Are you referring to the headlight bezels? LMC has them under the same PN for 67-72. Those are for the chrome ones. That's not to say GMC didn't use a slightly different grille/covers for the non painted (doesn't make sense, but possible...)

...and pics always help! A LOT!

Re: GMC Headlight Trim Surround Question ?

I think they all should interchange. Did you personally pull these off of a gmc yourself? I am thinking they may be from a car that look similar. I think pontiac had bezels that look similar.
