Work truck

Well it was a work truck last Friday. I never thought I would use this truck for work... but Friday morning my work van was acting up so I loaded the bare minimum of tools that I needed. I then went and cut/picked up 63 yards of carpet and pad. I didn't think to take a picture until I was almost done with the job. The job was for a friend who just bought this farm house and I was there the day before installing vinyl in his kitchen. He had appliances delivered and everyone wanted to talk about the truck.
Just a couple days before I bought a rebuilt carburetor from Roger Koop. I bolted it on and man this truck came alive. All I had to do was back the idle off about a half turn. Roger does amazing work!
Now it's time to retire the truck to just easy cruisin.

Most everyone seems to like old trucks and enjoys seeing one that the owners have appreciated enough to take good care of.

I got plenty of looks this summer when I got materials for a 14x9 deck from Menards. Good old Lefty came through and took the load. Everyone asked me what year it was. Imagine if it was all one color the looks I would have gotten

Went to the city today... put a bunch of miles on the truck and figured I'm getting real close to 14 mpg. I didn't know that was possible in one of these old trucks. Blowing some oil out of the the rear seal and pan gasket. Probably park it in the shop when the snow flies and the salt is scattered, pull the engine and replace a bunch of gaskets. I think I'll have a look at the cam sprocket and timing chain.
Haven't come up with a name for the truck yet, I know some guys think that's goofy.
When I bought the truck it had an ash tray full of quarters. Car wash score. Underneath all the quarters was a roach...the heavily resinated kind.

Yep, it's hard to drive them anywhere without someone wanting to talk old trucks. It probably didn't hurt it a bit to use it for work...

I bought my panel from a carpet layer. He had been hauling and laying carpet out of it for about 4 years. I drove it some over the next couple of years but it was always rough riding and the drum brakes weren't cutting it in Houston traffic. When I pulled the spindles to swap in the discs, I took the passenger side spring out in 3 pieces. It rides a lot better and doesn't make near the noise now.
I'm pretty sure he had a much bigger load in it a few times than you have in yours.

Pretty sure these trucks were never built with carpet layers in mind.
Can it be done? Absolutely. Should it be done? Only as a last resort.
Pretty sure my customers don't want to see me pull up to their house while it's raining in a 45 year old truck with their $6000 worth of carpet,pad and vinyl.

Hey, if it's a little damp it's heavier to carry but it's easier to stretch....... Just tell the customers that you are "tempering" it...

Lol. True enough but once it drys it pop the all the tackstrip up.

Nice to see the truck isn't afraid to work. That carpet can be heavy and not look like much weight. Very deceiving.

That was '07 when I had a couple others. I put the GMC up for sale and ended up selling the other two. This one is my keeper. Second picture is this year.

The ochre truck I did a 4/6 static drop and the carpet mooshed it down even more.
That's probably my favorite truck I've owned. I had it for a lot of years...aquired it before I joined up here.

I like it, plain, simple, cool. I thought I'd make that comment since you said the 1t didn't squat. If the ochre truck wasn't lowered I'd say it sure was squatted...but I knew it was dropped. Actually appears to be handling it well. Your present med. olive truck seems to handle it just fine. I'd like to get ahold of a longbed C/10 (or C/20) for a generally helpful chore boy beat about truck...and get to the K2500 for freshening up.
