Holiday Decoration Contest
I thought this would be fun to see who has the most over the top decorations. Winner gets a Chevy themed T shirt. Here are the simple guidelines:
Attached my feeble example to "prime the pump". Clark Griswald, I know you're out there https://youtu.be/inWKw8nqQlI

Re: Holiday Decoration Contest
It's not like me to enter a contest for Christmas lights, but I'll contribute a picture of my truck that has Christmas lights in it

That last picture was taken in sub zero weather last year. Little shaky.

Re: Holiday Decoration Contest
Your place lights up nicely. I thought about doing my '72 since they treated the roads with last weekend's snow. It's confined to the driveway till Spring now! I took a few at dusk but still too dark w/o a tripod

Re: Holiday Decoration Contest
I had to turn off my flash to get the lights to show up brighter. Doesn't look bad just not as bright. Oh, and most of my lights are LED.

Re: Holiday Decoration Contest
All mine are LED now except the old C6s on the two back buildings at the roofline. I have a dusk till dawn pole light out front, though, so no complete darkness. But you all get the idea. Nothing over the top, just multi-colors along roof lines with some doors or windows in clear, a blue star, and green to simulate garland on a couple rails. The C6s on the two back buildings stay up all year. So not too involved getting them all up. I'm along a stretch of country road with no other Christmas lights around, so it stands out more than appears in pictures. Reminds me of a little Christmas village.
So where are the Christmas lights y'all? Facebook? Instagram??

Re: Holiday Decoration Contest
www,planetchristmas.com is a dedicated site for Christmas lighting. They have forums for all types of décor, lights, blow ups, you name it. They usually have a link to vids of what they have up. They are also one of the "Go-To" sites for the animated lighting. You know, like the house where the lights dance to "Wizards in Wonderland" By TSO. Some great ideas over there if you are looking to expand your display.

Re: Holiday Decoration Contest
Most all my Christmas stuff is made from recycled things like garden fencing, tomato cages, chicken wire and some of my Wife's vine towers.

Re: Holiday Decoration Contest
Yeah, thanks. I get excited about the lights but I consider myself to be holding back. I like lighting up all my buildings. I feel it gives it a Christmas village look out here along the road. When I had a dog, his dog house had lights along the roof line. Same with my son's fort I had built for him. I have no trees or shrubs with lights. That would be a nice addition. Maybe I'll make some from tomato cages and such like you did.
There is another old farm house across the road. It sits back and up the hill from the creek with a thicket and willow forest between us. After looking across at my lights all her childhood, the one daughter has gotten hog wild on the lights. So I have lights to look at now. She has lights strung along the driveway and all over the place. I give her a lot of credit for effort, but it's more of a quantity than quality set-up. To each their own and this is not at all a competition, but I just can't make out what's going on with the lights, just a lot of lights. I'm just happy that she does it. The family before them, years ago, never put up lights. They were scientologists. I guess no lights for them? Or the mother was just really stern about things (wore the pants). The father would let me know how his son loved to look out from his bed at my lights. I ended up switching to LEDs because every year so many bulbs needed replaced and those little 4-packs got expensive. It was cheaper to buy a new strand, then finally I went with new LEDs. But who over there in China decided purple was a Christmas color for us?? That is what dominates from a distance. I feel like painting all the purple ones black to have traditional looking Christmas lights. Christmas is one time when tradition should mean something, even to those who seem to only look forward.

Re: Holiday Decoration Contest
My wife will buy more LED lights after Christmas when they are on clearance and then I will phase out more of the conventional . I've almost replaced them all.

Re: Holiday Decoration Contest
Everybody's lights look good. I am finding that I am not even getting 2 seasons from a set of the LED lights. I bought all new lights last year to replace strands (LED) that had half the strand go out. They all tested good before I put them up. I got them up on the house and after a week half the strand went out on 2 separate strands.
I have tried different brands, and all have the same trouble. I am really careful with them and put them away carefully, still have the same trouble. I was able to fix one, but the other, I tried changing fuses. I checked every single bulb. just wouldn't work. If it wasn't for my wife and kids, I would not put the lights up. or a tree for that matter. |

I've got my house torn apart for new siding so we didn't put anything up this year (outside)
Still took the truck to get the tree
