Love my current job right now

I love my current job now.I work at a trucking company as a one of the truck mechanics there and will be 4 weeks tomorrow.Getting better hours and treated better too.Last place I worked for,it was getting bad.Pay was getting bad and was getting treated badly.Boss says I am a great employee, don't sit around doing nothing waiting for parts.I clean my 3 work areas up when waiting for parts and straighten my tool cart up finding my tools easily. One thing that convinced him to hire me was I am the person that comes in on time. The other is I am a veteran,he likes to hire veterans which he has a lot respect for whom deserve a chance.I served 8 years in the Marines which I am proud of.So far a great review from the head mechanic, service manager and parts manager too reported to my boss. The head mechanic,Gus likes that I do work and I don't go to him for help everytime called don't poke the bear.Co workers,I get along with too.My boss's drivers, they see I care about the trucks.I leave a grease stain inside,it gets cleaned up right away and one driver witnessed me do this so far.Told me thank you and appreciated it.Boss is already talking giving me a raise next month,no comebacks with the repairs done right the first time.

That's super CL. The little things you mentioned sets you apart from the rest. Shows you deserve the job and appreciate being there. It doesn't go unnoticed. It's easier when you love what you do. Good luck to you.

Re: Love my current job right now

Boss says I do everything on the list when doing the servicing, nothing is blank when I fill it out when I hand it to the service manager.I know breakdowns cost money. One pet peeve my boss hates is when someone is in the tool truck a little too long.I am in there for what I need,Matco comes in on Mondays and Snap On comes in on Wendsdays.

Re: Love my current job right now

Good for you!
I'm retired, but I feel very lucky that I never had a job that I hated.
I've always thought that I'd rather have a job that I loved, than a job making huge money that I hated.
For the average person, for five days a week, half your life is your job. Not counting 8 hours sleep, you've got 8 hours at work, 8 hours off work. I also believe you live longer when you love your job. Less stress.

Less stress as well and I always do things properly the safe way.One example is I use the overhead crane to pick up a cylinder head, they are very heavy.

The cream usually rises to the top.....glad it's working out for you and I hope it continues to do so.

Be on your guard though, because you do work so hard, because you do show up early and go the extra mile, watch out....there is usually at least one or a few employees that will target you and try to take you out. Watch what you say to and around coworkers. You may see them as "team members" but they may see you as "an obstacle."

I do watch what I say.One co worker,he wanted to pick a fight with me and said no.I was raised violence is never the answer and reported it to my boss.Gave him a warning and was fired Friday, told my boss something I will not mention.Good thing is my co workers in the shop area and I work together.Gus and I also have something in common together, both Kiss fans. The area I am in is called Kiss fan area now.

Re: Love my current job right now

every garage i ever worked at they treated you like crap and ran you into the ground for mediocre pay. half the reason i got out of working on cars was working around other mechanics, they are always the most unbearable miserable people to be around. had to get away before i turned into one of them.

awesome you found a good place with good people. seems hard to find anymore
