Re: Dana 44 pinion nut Torque?
The '71 manual says 210 ft / lbs. Your D44 uses shims to set pinion pre-load instead of a crush sleeve so nut torque is not as critical.

Re: Dana 44 pinion nut Torque?
One way you can be comfortable with it....take a center punch and mark the nut and the end of the pinion adjacent to each other...measure the distance that threads that are sticking out from the nut....when you put it back on just tighten until the marks line back up...then use the center punch to peen the top of the nut in 2 or 3 places to insure that it doesn't back off....I've done this lots of times....never a failure...

Re: Dana 44 pinion nut Torque?
Dana's are easy, just torque the nut to specifications. They will weep fluid through the splines so put some silicone between the washer and yoke.
