Re: plastic truck beds?..what's next..

I have a 2010 Toyota X-Runner. It has a plastic bed. I don't do a lot of hauling, so not really a big deal for me.

The only issue I have with some of these developments is how it forces the industry insurance rates up.
Every time something goes into these vehicles that makes it more expensive to repair...the industry has to put rates up to offset this cost.
These days even a minor bumper repair for a shop is probably $1000-$2000 due to the types of bumper systems on the vehicles.
Then we all end up paying a bit more unfortunately, although with respect to the safety stuff we are safer as well.

Yeah, These things shatter when hit. It's remove and replace. I imagine it's new steel box time for ones like my friend's. I tell him to be careful with it. He's had the truck about 15 years. Insurance would probably total it if bed gets hit.

Ugh.....plastic makes modern life better but I'd much rather deal with metal and wood. Those two materials you can fix on your own.

It's weird but those things seem to congregate around me. We only built a few thousand but I can name five or six that I come across regularly.

I have a friend who has a quad steer Suburban so usually when one of us sees a pickup will take a pic and forward it.

Re: plastic truck beds?..what's next..

What are the facts on those rear steers? How long were those made, what years, and just 1500 swb ext cab and Suburban? I have a neighbor that had a black pickup and drove it a long time. He has a lot of money but hangs onto his trucks. This past year I started seeing him in a silver one. I figure he liked it so much he went out and found a like new one. He's not an old vehicle kind of guy.
