So, I'm planning to fabricate a block for the top to utilize some long grade 8 bolts to replace the u-bolts, with the block compensating for the center bolt, which will need to be 2" off center of the axle tube to maintain the 127" wb. This plan will also include either drilling an extra hole in each spring pad on the axle tube for the center bolt to locate it with the 2" offset. I've researched the crap out of this on this site and can't seem to find anybody else that's done it (at least that's posted anything about it). Twas hoping to simply copy somebody elses work.
Zero rate blocks will compensate for either 1" or 1.5" forward or backward, however you also gain 1" lift: http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/Zero%20Rates.htm Not what you need, but maybe stimulate some ideas.

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"

Thanks, guys.

That link was interesting, badpeanut. You are right in that I don't need/want the 1" lift, but the ad discussed folks wanting to change their wheelbase from stock for a variety of reasons. Makes a fella think he should put the bed on and mount the axle with the 26" front dimension springs and see what it looks like before getting too carried away with fabbing up some adapters. Hard to imagine the 2" difference not being noticeable, though. Hmmmm.....

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"

I see that you have come to a halt on the old girl. I got a few more parts in and I will have to wait untill the 27th to do my body work. My brother-in-law has had a emergence and had to fly up to New York.

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"

Horse stuff at the county fair and rc racing have sucked up most of the time lately. Hoping to get back at the exhaust this coming week. I will be trying to get over to my folks house to help Dad with a deck project he's found himself wrapped up in, too. Payback for the help he's given me for Mustard, plus, he's my Dad.

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"

Yea you got to take care of old Dad. He is the only one you will have. Like I said the old mustard isn't going anywhere soon. Like my truck. Is is at a stand still untill i get it painted. I am doing small things that want get in the way of the body work. I am almost finshed with the brake lines. Just need to run the lines across the rear end. a 5 ft piece alone the rail for the rear brakes. I will be glad when they are done. about 50 trips to the parts place.

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"

I'm still here. Mustard is still more of a saddle rack than a truck at this point, and now I've got some cleaning up to do in the garage to even get to be able to do any work on it, but I'll get back to it at some point. Dang summers, anyway.

Cool. I looked at LMC, but apparently not hard enough. Mine's in pretty rough shape.

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"

Well, I'm going to get out in the garage today and start digging out Mustard. That'll take quite a bit of the day, unfortunately, as not only did Mustard get covered with stuff (due mostly to the fact that the project has sort of covered up the storage spots for the stuff), but one of my cabinets fell apart and I'll need to do something with that. Cheap particle board one removed from the house years back.

Scott, that pushrod boot looks tons better than mine. I think the one in LMC is for where the pushrod goes through the firewall, but I really need the one going into the back of hte booster like you are showing there.

Since my last writing a month or so ago, we've sold our horse. Not sure what that means for the Mustard project. I already have the gooseneck hitch purchased, and I'm thinking I might as well install it, even if we get rid of the horse trailer. You never know when another hobby/trailer/whatever might come along that needs the gooseneck hitch.

Re: 72 C20 "Old Mustard"

Thanks, Scott. You da man!

Haven't given up, George, just hadn't found the time to get anything done. I got mired down in the whole leaf spring thing, then ran out of funding for the leaf springs with the RC racing and horse stuff going on this summer, which also both consumed quite a bit of time, to boot.

So here are some pics of what the garage ended up like at the end of the summer after a few months of neglect.
