Thanks for taking the pic and posting. The more info though, the bigger the puzzle it seems.

Re: Build Date Question

Ok... so just plugging in our newest info...if 155XXX was assembled in March but before the 11th

September 102XXX
October
November 122XXX
December 1389XX
January
February
March 155XXX, 157XXX

...and my truck was assembled after January 13th....

...and using Keith's logic and rough calculation from the Trucks side thread on this:

"I counted 45 working days between the period of September 15 and November 15, 1969 (not counting any overtime; I arbitrarily chose the middle of the month).

122,000 - 102,000 = 20,000, divided by the 45 days = 444 units per day.

As a sense check, 55.5 jobs per hour for an 8 hour day. That's a pretty good value as most of the truck plants ran, and still do run, around 60 jobs per hour. I do not know if St Louis was running one or two shifts of production at that time.

Now, even though that rate doesn't seem to hold true for the period from December 15 to March 15, I would propose we can build up from the December value of 138,900 at a rate of 444 units per day.

145,100 - 138,900 = 13 days, which would likely put the build in the mid January 1970 timeframe, assuming (again) no overtime and that the plant did not run during the time between Christmas and the New Year holiday.

Looking at it another way, 145,100 is about 1/3 of the way between 138,900 and 157,000. I count roughly 66 working days between those two values, so we could figure your truck was built approximately 22 days after 138,900. Assuming 138,900 was built on December 15 (arbitrarily) then I count 22 working days up to January 26, 1970, again assuming no overtime and that the plant did not run between Christmas and New Year." --Keith Seymore

....Everything still works for it to be a late January truck, but gosh I wish we could get a February VIN or five.

Thanks again for all the help guys. Please continue to keep your eyes peeled for 70 St.L's.

Re: Build Date Question

I bought a 1970 blazer in February and just started working on it and the serial number is 26 before the one in your first post. So I guess my build date should be 9/69 Thanks for the info on build dates.

Re: Build Date Question

If it's still the stock gears in the rear end, The build date is stamped on the ring gear. Since its a corporate 12 bolt it was built in the gm plant. Don't know how close to the truck build date the axles were built though.

Rear axle was stamped January 7th...right in line with the other stuff on the truck. Sorry, I had already posted that on the trucks' side version of this thread...should have included that info here already too.

Ok. Still looks like you're pushing late January then.

Yes...it's a tough one. I really think it was at the end of January, but it's going to be hard to confirm unless somebody hits us with some really close numbers. I need a lower number in February or a higher number in January...that's not too much to ask right

Re: Build Date Question

45 years is a long time to still have that info. Mine was dragged thru hell and back before I saved it. Too bad the protectoplate is long gone. Or any other way to tell. I thought the frame was stamped with a vin and build date on the top rail below the drivers seat. Don't quote me on that but I think I've seen one.

Door sticker had been painted over. He didn't feel like he could get to the build date.

Understand.... might be worth looking into his engine assembly code. Of if he happens to have the POP. Either would give a good data point, in fact a POP will have both the engine assembly date and the build month on it. Being about 3500 units higher gets us to around 10 days later than your truck.

Re: Build Date Question

IronCanine, looking at this Craigslist add for a 2wd Blazer, I've noticed that it must be an early 1970 because it is the only other one that I've seen with the "8-350" badge under the K-5 emblem. In one of the pictures you can see that it does still have the Manufacture date sticker on the driver's door. It might be worth trying to contact the guy and see if the info is close enough to help you on your quest to find your manufacture date.

Thanks for the heads up...I called him and it's a S151XXX...very close. He's going to text me the date tomorrow (hopefully). Seemed nice. Sounded and looked like a legit one owner. Gonna make someone very happy. Helluva truck. Hope you posted it in the 2wd find thread.

I found it in the 2wd find thread. Wow, 6,000 units away from yours, if it is a late January build date, that pretty much settles it for you, huh?

Exactly...that would be awesome. But I would be pretty surprised if it wasn't February. It will narrow the search field regardless. Thanks for the heads up.
