I'm still not quite there yet, but I did take some mock up photos. We decided to make a custom top mount instead of using the stock mounts (stock mounts in picture to show fitment) and we completely removed the bottom mounts from the radiator core support. The rubber retainers surprisingly work well down in the bottom radiator shelf area without the metal retainers and they hold the radiator perfectly. The top mounts are perfect...if you don't have to put the rubber in them. With the rubber, they are too narrow. Hence the reason some have been modifying their retainers to widen them to fit this radiator. We elected to go the custom route since we wanted something to cover the wires, space, etc that is between the top of the radiator and the top of the core support. I'll update this thread once we get that built to show you what we did. Will be a bit yet. We have a paint date of 11/09/09 and then it will be somewhere around 1 month before we get it back.













We had to add a little notch in the center of the radiator support frame at the bottom to allow the radiator to sit this far down in the tray. There is a screw that holds the fans on at the bottom that was coming in contact with the core support at the bottom. But it was an easy fix. You can see that notch the best in the third pic.

are those upper mounts the longer (4core)BBC or A/C equiped ones for our trucks? I read somewhere those ones are longer and work with this rad.

Yeah, there's definitely a difference in the supports. I confirmed via LMC Truck. I measured mine and it would appear they are the larger ones, but someone could confirm by measuring theirs to see if they are any different.

My supports measure 5 1/2" total with the metal 'clamps' measuring 3 3/8" and the rubber part measures 2 7/8". According to LMC the 3 row radiator is 2" deep and the 4 row is 2 5/8" deep. Seems the 4 row would fit the best in the clamps I have.

i used the 70-81 camaro rad support for the top heavy duty one 30$ off the bay works like a champ got the idea from copper head thats the one they used i have same radiator hope it works with BB fitment wise

I just got this rad and fan set up with the wiring harness. With the harness it includes a 180 degree temp switch. Where do I put this switch? In the block or intake manifold the fans will be all the time. If i put it on the cool side to the rad the fans may not run enough. Do I need something else rather them this switch? Help would be appreciated. Thanks. Jamie

Wish I could help, but you are currently ahead of me. I'm still waiting for the body shop to finish mine. Ugh!

You can put it in the head or the intake. I put mine in the head. You say they will be "all the time". Do you mean on all the time? if so you dont need the switch.

When I said all the time I figured that if the thermostat is controlling to 180 and the temp switch is at 180 after the engine is warmed up I figure they will run all the time. But the are wired such so the are off when the truck is turned off. I'll try it in the intake manifold before the thermostat as the plug in the head is seized.

Also having issues mounting this radiator to look pleasing.

Going to search for a general or generic rubber pad for the bottom and probably weld brackets on the side of the radiator which will mount, with rubber bushings, to the radiator core. So, I will have no top mounts. The brackets will require that I move the battery, but I have already purchased a batter tray for the rear and the front tray will come out.

I'll be interested to see what you come up with. I'm working on this solution also. I don't think anything "factory" is going to look good. I'll keep you update on what I figure out.

I have had this set-up for about a year now. It works fantastic, but you need to consider a few things. Those fans use a huge amount of amperage so make sure your charging system is up to the task. I made mine fit witth the stock 4 core upper mounts and I trimmed the lower lip off the core support. I then trimmed the pass side upper support so the rad. would sit flush against the top of the core. I put over 6k miles on the truck with zero problems. The fans almost never come on because the rad works great. I also changed the temp switch to a 195 on 180 off because you need some heat in the engine. If you don't it will run way to cool. The switch is from summit and I think it was around 25 bucks. I would put the switch in the head for the most accurate reading. I will see if I have any pic's. I Sold that truck but kept the drive train so I really cant get any new pic's.

Does anyone have fans that fit this radiator and also cover the entire radiator? If so, what fan do you have? It appears that the fan shroud that come with the radiator leave a gap at either side.

I put this setup on my 68 supercharged truck. It bolts in the stock location and with the stock mounts (I used a different upper mount). It comes with all the wiring and an ajustable fan switch.

I went over to Rad Rides by Troy and checked out some of the cars they had there and talked with them about my dilemma. Well, that had a 55 Chevy in there with the radiator directly bolted to the radiator clip. I discussed this with them and they said they have done this with many other vehicles and it's no problem...so this is what I am going to do. The radiator sits at an angle so the brackets will have to be welded at an angle, in order to mount to the two pillars on each side. I tried to post some pics of the "pillars" that stick out where the welded brackets will be bolted, the pics aren't so good. I should have it completed in the next week or so, I'll post it then. Note that I am mounting my battery in the back so if you want to keep your batter up front then you will have to modify your battery tray also.
