350 Motor Mount

Pulled the engine Sat. Curious to see if I need to get motor mounts to fit the new 350. We took a pontiac motor out, there are still some part of the mount attached to the pontiac block.
Does it appear they have "rigged" these?

Re: 350 Motor Mount

Yes you need a different motor mount. That top bracket needs removed and the actual motor mount bolts to that frame bracket. That frame bracket neede to be moved back to it's original position. You should have 2 bolts on the top of the frame, and 2 bolts into the crossmember. You will also need the upper part that bolts to the block commonly referred to as the 'clamshell'

Re: 350 Motor Mount

There are some other brackets on the engine I removed. I wonder if they rigged those to fit. I will pull them and then see if maybe they are the "clamshell" you speak of.

Re: 350 Motor Mount

I believe I am a visual learner. Anyone have pics of the actual motor mount setup prior to install? I am going to pull the brackets off the tin indian tonight, but was wondering what the setup SHOULD look like...

Re: 350 Motor Mount

I guess first I should ask what year of truck are you working on? I assume it is a '73-'87 by the look of the motor mount bracket. I did a quick google search and found these images. Here is what the motor mounts look like

And these are the 'clamshells' that bolt to the side of the block.

Re: 350 Motor Mount

Well crud. We are working on a 68. I am guessing then that we have the wrong frame mounts, as these don't fit lower on the frame. Will pull them off this weekend and see what we have to work with.
I too had used the google machine, but was unsure which one's to focus on. Thank you for the research!

Re: 350 Motor Mount

ya, like everything else on the truck so far, we have been struggling. Those are not the brackets currently on the engine we took off.
so little help from brothers or lmc and we will be better.
The current issue is I think the frame bracket is the wrong one and I can't see that one anywhere online. there is flat out not enough room to drill new holes..???

Re: 350 Motor Mount

Yeah, those are motor mount brackets for a '73-'87 truck, and the C10 brackets are too tall to fit the earlier frames correctly. You should be able to find a set of '67-'72 small block motor mount brackets. If you can't find them locally, try the 67-72 classifieds section here on the forum.
