Epoxy Primer Shelf Life
I have some Nason epoxy primer I bought about 4 or 5 years ago. It has never been opened. Y’all think it would be ok for chassis work and outdoor furniture? I know they say it has a shelf life but I’d like to use it for “non-critical” work if possible. Thanks!

Re: Epoxy Primer Shelf Life
The only way to really know is to open it.
If the stuff on the top is hardened, It's done for. A little different type of paint but for example. I had a can of Silver Bullet rust protector that was 20+ years old. I just knew it was not good anymore. I had to almost chisel the lid off. Once I stirred it up, I worked great. With your primer, I would probably use it all once I opened it.

Re: Epoxy Primer Shelf Life
From what I've seen, it should be ok if it hasn't been opened and has been stored somewhere without big temperature swings. The activator might be bad after this much time though. Mix a small batch and do a spray out test, see if it cures like it should.

Re: Epoxy Primer Shelf Life
Thanks all! I think I’ll take a look at it and spray a test piece to see what happens. If it looks ok, I’ll spray the lawn furniture with it. But, for the truck, I’ll heed the advice to buy new.
Again, I greatly appreciate the advice! |
