Makes you wonder whatever happened to the ozone layer or killer bees? The real problem is too many news stations trying to fill time. Every week they have a new BIG story and last weeks is old news.

The only consistency is Paris Hilton and Britney.

Re: Old Car Emissions Exemption Threatened in 8 California Counties

I'm curious... does this mean that the 350 in my factory-6 cylinder truck needs to be state reffed? I'm not buying it. They can pull all of the spit they want, but I am unwilling to comply. I'll ignore it until they start the threatening. They'll never get me alive. Nobody tows this truck! Jail doesn't sound pleasing, but if I had a choice on why I'd be there: it'd be running from the cops in a stepside!

Hopefully it won't go that far. But Im not giving up. I drive what I feel like driving and that's that.

Re: Old Car Emissions Exemption Threatened in 8 California Counties

I just don't see how they could enforce it. They would cause too many people to junk there vehicles and buy new(er) costing $K's. Or just almost as much $$ to find all the correct parts, and that's if they are still available new, used, or whatever....

Re: Old Car Emissions Exemption Threatened in 8 California Counties

Voice your concerns about this ASAP. I'm a gear-head but I want cleaner air too!

I'm putting on my 'anti-flame' suit now . . ..... Older cars should not be exempt from smog limits. They should be allowed to achieve ecoligically better air standards whatever way possible. Vehicles should not be 'failed' because they're missing some piece of outdated smog equipment; but they also shouldn't be gross polluters.

Set the standard for 1978 model vehicles since that's when just about everything rolled out of the factory w/convertors. As long as your vehicle hits as good as or better than the 78 standard, you're good to go. I don't want a bunch of suits that don't know squat about how to make a V8 run strong yet clean, deciding on how to arrive @ that standard.

Years ago my 78 Camino in 'legal' trim (all emission equip installed & properly functioning) polluted more than the replacement bullet that was 'illegal' (smog equipment gone). Both engines met the smog standards for 78 year model vehicles.

The irony? The illegal engine actually would have passed up to 82 year model standards, the legal engine could not. The one that polluted more was deemed better for our ecology because of how the laws are worded/drafted.

We want better air.
We should to be able to achieve that goal on our own terms.

Re: Old Car Emissions Exemption Threatened in 8 California Counties

Well, we can cry about it as Californians and threaten to move, etc. As for me, I was born a Californian, and will always be a Californian, and I love the place that I live, both the north and the south (though I am a Dodger fan) and I'll fight this thing in all the ways I know how, starting by emailing my congressman to express my opinion, and by voting for the right people. That's all we have. We can talk about it all we want and I think that's important too, but we need to spend the 5 minutes and do something about, guys.

Here's a tough question: How does one figure out just where each candidate has stood on issues such as this? I don't mean where do they stand now; I want to know how they've voted throughout their political career.

"They" wouldn't care about the "minor" details you mention.
It would simply come down to, "No smog certificate=no license sticker=no driving your truck, or car."
"They" would like nothing more than to see our trucks going to the crusher.

Have to buy a newer vehicle costing more $$? Great! More tax revenues. Higher license fees!
"We need your money more than you need your money!"

Just my .02.
Sorry about the rant.

Re: Old Car Emissions Exemption Threatened in 8 California Counties

they are damning our great country. this polution crap has gone too far, yet they run the refineries 24-7 in the east bay and all the neighborhoods go on lock down any time there is a spill, chemical mis-hap, or fire of some sort....yet they blame the poor old classics?

shame on them politicians!

they should clean up their own messes at home before condemning their neighbors for a barking dog.

just my pennies

Communist Hypocrites

Dam politicians wanting to make like they are saving us from ourselves

All bad science, misrepresentation, and head line management full of hypocrisies.

Real scary is want happens in Cali. seems to affect me in Ontario.... eventually.

My way of not feeding into the system is by driving old vehicles (newest is 1980, oldest 1970)....call it "recycling" if you will. ....thats GREEN is it not

Bottom line as said in other posts.....

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY

not about the environment

Props for maintaining that setup. It isn't easy.

I live in Nevada where the emissions law is '68 and newer. Mine passes every year with a few parts changes and some tuning. Granted it probably would not pass the California "look" test.

If anything it should be like Mondo says " It shouldn't matter how you get it clean as long as it is". I am all for cleaner air.

Voice your opinion as I have for change in this manner.

It is indeed all about the money. Sad.
