Build thread, 70 c10 my first ride

Back in 07 I bought my first ride, my 1970 c10 for $1000, it had the original 307v8 and th350, i am the third owner of this truck it has never left Southern Michigan/Northern Indiana. The guy that I bought it from drove the old 307 into the ground. So the intention was to put a 350 in it. it took about 2 years to find an engine i could afford and was worth it, i opened the engine up and put a new crank, cam, rings, timing set, and an air gap intake. I ran this for a year, the i took the engine back out over last winter and had the tranny rebuilt, also got a bigger cam and a edelbrock 600 cfm with a pro-flo air filter, long tube headers (wrapped which made a huge difference in the running temp and sound of the exhaust) full true duals, and converted to disc brakes through McGauhey, 2000 stall converter, add on engine oil and tranny fluid cooler, lots of other stuff i am sure lol, drawing a blank atm lol, i will post pics of the start and post as many as i have through my build so far

Re: Build thread, 70 c10 my first ride

my next plan of action is to get cab corners rockers door skins fenders either patch panels or replacements, and i am thinking about converting my engine to a LT1, it is already a R engine which came in the 96-99 c/k trucks, so its a roller cam etc, does anyone know of any reason this shouldnt work other then the water pump reverse flow?

does anyone know what a decent yet inexpensive 12 bolt rear end posi unit and disc brake conversion? PNs or whatever would be appreciative.

Re: Build thread, 70 c10 my first ride

hey guys sorry i haven't posted much on my build thread had lots going on lately, my dad has lymphoma, and my grandma has lung cancer, and changed jobs, its been a long couple of weeks, anyways I am trying to figure out what to do with the truck this winter, me and my dad usually work on it all winter, anyways i built a huge wish list on LMC truck, that comes up to over $2500, that includes re-upholstery and rubber floor mat etc, anyways i am trying to decide if i really need to do a full floor board replacement or if i should patch it, the big concern is the doors are getting hard to close, i know i need to replace the rubber body mounts, but also the cab support channels are all but completely rotten, as far as the floor i have a hole about 4" around where the pedal used to go, and i can see some light inbetween the kick panels and the floor... If i do decide to do this i will be taking it on mostly alone, cuz my dad is too sick to do much... but i do have friends to help me do lifting etc, anyways any advice would be great

Re: Build thread, 70 c10 my first ride

Sorry to hear about the illnesses in the family. Nice looking build. I prefer to patch vs full replacement but if it's really far gone a full floor isn't a bad idea....just make sure to brace everything very well.

Re: Build thread, 70 c10 my first ride

the bracing is a big concern of mine i dont want to ruin the cab, like i say there is a couple of spots where i can see ligt by the kick panels, and a 4 inch or so hole where the pedal should be, the rest of the floor i believe is ok, just the supports are mostly gone

Before you remove the cab from the frame weld in a bunch of support bars so the cab doesn't shift. Then remove then when you are done.

Re: Build thread, 70 c10 my first ride

ok guys i realize I havent had much going on in my build thread... but a lot of stuff has been keeping me busy, A while back I informed everyone my dad had lymphoma.. well he has been healed and is actually going to the doc this week to make sure everything is good to go back to work next week. I also informed you guys that my grandma had lung cancer... well sadly after a long several months of fighting her illness she passed away on 12-1-12... Its been a stressful time...

Well I suppose i will get you guys caught up on whats been going on with the truck. I have decided to not go the LT1 route but instead go LS, with the help of all you guys on this site especially the LS swap section, and a few of my friends being LS nuts, I will be doing this a 99 chevy silverado with a 5.3 I picked up on sunday was wrecked, but still runs and drives, i actually drove it up the trailer lol. After further inspection on Monday I found out the truck is a 4.8 not a 5.3 like was described... so at the moment i am trying to figure out if I want to stay with the 4.8 i have since I got the entire truck for $800 or if I should sell it and find a 5.3.

I plan on at least having 400 rwhp without boring it out and staying naturally aspirated for now... I have already picked out a cam when I thought I had a 5.3 its a futral F14, and then running 799 heads with aftermarket springs and ls7 lifters, also plan on using a ls6 intake or perhaps a bbk, fbody headers and a cold air intake of course...

Re: Build thread, 70 c10 my first ride

i am going to be running electric fans that i bought when i had the intention to go LT.. they are off a ford something or other, I will try to give you more info on them, dual fans, and the shroud is almost a perfect fit over my current radiator.

since the last time I posted I have started collecting parts, I have a wideband AFR gauge, Xpipe, new polyuerethane body mounts, I bought the stuff from ls1nova71 to convert to a electric speedo, I have a addco 1.25 front sway bar and thats it so far...

Re: Build thread, 70 c10 my first ride

I will be using a wix 33737 fuel regulator/filter, I also bought a 99 camaro fbody fuel tank and sending unit, and I just plan on running 3/8 brake line for the majority of my fuel system...

Re: Build thread, 70 c10 my first ride

well I think I have decided that I will stay with the 4.8 like I say I am a lil disappointed that its not a 5.3 but the HP difference isnt huge, plus I at some point might go twin turbo and I think that the 4.8 will love boost, just some neat reading for you guys http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/h...g_bang_theory/
it discusses how awesome these engines really are and its relatively easy to get HUGE power!

number three on this page
http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cb/full.aspx?Page=65
really simple i did my best to get the grill as clean as possible, then basically youre supposed to dip the letter into water if i recall correctly (theyre vinyl) then place it in its designated position

Re: Build thread, 70 c10 my first ride

well i bought my 'new' to me heads from gringoloco on the board http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=563195
casting 799, for the guys that dont know a lot about them these are the best stock heads besides 243's which if you dont know are the same exact head as a 799 other then the 243s have sodium filled light weight valves and the 799s dont...
