any pics of a late 80's instrument panels???

Was kinda wondering if the gauges from a late 80's truck would work in a 72 chevy. I'm planning on making a custom dash by taking a 72 glovebox, mounting some gauges behind it, on an flat piece of black plastic and then covering it with a clear piece of plastic.. Also are these gauges mechanical or electrical.

The 88-up gauges are not just electrical, but are electronic and require a computer from these trucks to send the signal. And of course, it requires those particular sensors, too.

I doubt the fuel gauge will adapt to the in-cab tank. Would need to use the newer style tank & sender unit.

The speedo uses a VSS (vehicle speed sensor) in the tranny or transfer case that counts teeth as they pass, and requires the computer to translate for the gauge, and also a calibration module in the dash for the specific axle ratios in your truck. This would actually be a good fix if you have a newer model 700R4 in your truck that uses a VSS.

Will you be using the rest of the TBI system, too? If so, this would be any easy project. But if you only wanted gauges you'd have to figure out what to do make sure the system will work right with only half its components. Could be the gauges will work fine independently, without any other circuits hooked up; could be they require more than just their particualr sensors. wow that was a buch of good info....however I should have stated that i was looking for the tail end of the 73-87 bodystyle trucks and burbs......

Those factory gauges are junk, you would be much better off to just go aftermarket.
