Heater core retainers

I have (like all of you) had to repalce the heater core, when got it all out the screws that hold the "heater core retainer" where rusted solid and most of the end eaten away. Does any one sell these? I have looked in LMC, ClassicParts and Eckler's. Or do i make my own??

If you are looking for exactly the same screws, they might be a little tough to find. I think Brothers has a pretty extensive original hardware selection. I'm sure there are others too (Classic Parts, Gmc Pauls, etc..)

If you just want something that will work, start with basic hardware choices, and if that doesn't work, try an industrial hardware supplier.

Do you need just the screws or do you need the brackets too?

being the redneck that I am.For the time being mine is being held in place with a peace of copper wire that was left over when I wired the shop.But I would like to fix it the right way.Just what part are out there to do it.Most of mine was glued with fiberglass.Works but looks like crap.

I would put a post in the WTB FS forum and maybe you might get some hits and possibly get free ones. Just a tought.

WoW "What was I thinking or was I" you gutys tell me. I need the heater core brackets for my "Replacement Truck" (first pic) But site some 30 ft from it is the truck taht was wrecked "A Good Truck". Kinda have it do that Homer Simpson Thing "dope"

Happens to the best of us , I spent an hour today looking for a wrench I had in my hand.

? I don't get your last post. Well After removing them (attempting) I have one retainer with screws, one end is slightly bent. The screws have a 5/16 head that is slotted. One had a phillips screw. The one with the phillips screw broke. Here is a pic, let me know if you want it. Later

I think he is going to try and use the ones from the "other" truck.

Thanks for the effort on this small matter, but as you all cam see there is really no one manufacturing them? At least no one asfar as youal know.

Oh okay, I'll put it in the "parts somebody might need someday box". I also removed all the screws and the blower motor. Tested the motor, works fine(original delco rochester). anything else you might save lockdoc?? also have the metal inner heater box in the attic if there is anything worth saving there or whole. I am trashing the outer box because the fiberglass is cracked and broken, other wise I would have saved it too.

If the short ground wire is there I would save it. Other than that looks like you have it pretty well covered.

Well I made an attempt and made my own. They work! I used some old brake line I had just laying aruond. What do ya think. The one end is a bit of a bend (just alittle tight) other than that they are pretty easy.

It looks good. I hope there is room inside the box for it. If I remember right it is pretty tight in there... I thought you were going to use the ones out of the other truck???

Hey, old post im sure... But ive got a 69 chevy c10. New heater core... No brackets in it just some old bailing wire... Meh it works but don't look too good. Also is there a tool set that will let me take the box off with out removing the hood bracket?

This one should also go in the ''DOH!'' File: after losing the proper screw, when replacing a fresh copper/brass heater core, I used 1'' black drywall screws. Yes, they engaged the mounting holes in the OEM wire support brackets, but the point of one of the screws pierced the wall of the core, and I had to change it out again.
The next time, I got fancy and used extra-long machine screws coming from the inside -- so the stud ends protruded from the heater box, and secured them with nuts on the outside...
The other heater core should be a simple brazing fix.
