Re: 66 frame off resto-mod

Along with the engine mounting, the wiring is boxed up and off to be cleaned up and setup for standalone running. We chose Current Performance to do the harness re-work and programming as they came recommended by several people and I liked the fuse/relay setup they use as it lends to an OEM look and feel. I'll let you all know how it works out and post pics of the completed harness when it comes back...

Looking good

Those exhaust manifolds look close to the frame. Was any trimming of the upper frame flange necessary for them to fit?

They did have to trim a bit to clearance the manifolds and cats. I wanted to run the cats because I am in Calif. and you never know what the state is going to try next on emissions...

That looks good......and a typical exapmle of why it is a good idea to abrasive blast the body. It uncovers rust issues that would otherwise go unnoticed.

That is truth! The CB antenna hole on the roof was un-expected, it was just covered with bondo.

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod

I've got the same seat belt on my tailgate. Works pretty good, but just keep some white grease in it so it wont rust.

My 66 had a hole there too. I thought it was factory. CB makes since. The good old days before cell phones.

It could have been factory! Mine is welded up and the cab is off to paint along with the other front end parts so the next photos of it set should be the start of going back to togather. (I hope!)

Paint started

Well OK, I thought my next shots were going to be re-assembly, but blasting, body and paint are taking a lot longer than I thought. Here are some shots of the cab being worked on. The John Deer green is KBS and we only did the bottom of the cab to protect from rust prior to the primer coat.

This is the old Chevy color green paint that we picked. RRC had the body guy do some repairs that were needed so that is why you see primer over the base coat.

Re: 66 frame off resto-mod

I would get onto the Tom, it's more cost effective for you to have them fix it before base coat. .02

Thanks, The machine shop said mild hydrolock caused the rod issue, the yard stiffed us, said they would give us 200 toward the repair, but no check ever came. Anyone in the LA area, I would advise do not use American truck in Fontana, the tell you what you want to hear, but don't stand by anything.

Nice pics of the build, enjoying it immensely. I see in your profile that you list SoCal as your home and purchased your engine from Fontana. Do you live in the Inland Empire?

No, my builder is in Upland so Fontana is closer for him...
