Thumbs down Dish Network

It's hard to know where to begin -- poor service, abysmal customer service and agressive refusal to close an account that is reminiscent of AOL.

Details upon request.. just avoid them

Re: Dish Network

I used to do installs on both directv and dishnetwork, and while the directv was technically a snap (only one satellite to find) and dish was a pain (2 sats) I always preferred dish because their customer service was the best. Directv always had to "talk" to the customer and try to sell them everything under the sun. Always added a half hour to the install. I personally have dish and have for 6 yrs w/ no problems, but then I never tried to cancel them either. My dad has had directv for about the same amount of time and had no problems with them.

Re: Dish Network

I tried to cancel Direct TV a few years ago when I moved and it took me over a month to get it done. The number I had to call for it was always busy.

Re: Dish Network

I've hadthem for almost 2 years. I never had any trouble with them myself except for a dvr unit getting fried last year. I always get good reception and never had any trouble with billing. I never tried direct tv so i can't commet on them.

Re: Dish Network

I use to install them, I am glad that they got away from "selling" the equipment (1997) and started giving them away for one year comittment. One good thing is that if you cancel you can keep the equipment and sell it on Ebay for big bucks!

Re: Dish Network

Been a Dish Network customer for almost 4 years now, no problems. Their customer service has been pretty helpful with me, replaced a toasted DVR unit in two days, and when my dish crapped out last year had a guy out to replace the broken antenna the next day all at no cost to me. I don't know if the service differs based on where you live, but it's light years better than the loacl cable co.

The one thing people need to be aware of is that most new subscribers don't realize they are committing to a 1 to 2 year contract at sign up that have pretty hefty cancellation charges for trying to leave early.

I have not yet had to cancel with Dish, so maybe I'll be singing a different tune, when that day comes.
