Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck

I used a repop steering wheel on the orange truck and never liked it. I had purchased one of the wooden wheels for the green truck and one Sunday afternoon I put it on the orange truck and it never came off. So I bought another. I really like the size and feel.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck

I been busy with a lot of small items. I have most of the underhood parts painted satin black. Also have the rear frame and diff cleaned, painted and reassembled. Getting ready to cut the frame and then pull the engine for cleaning and gaskets. More pics to come, should get a lot done in the next couple months.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck

The truck is coming together very nicely! With all the cutting and welding so far, that SWB conversion must've been a breeze.

So you had to split that pass. fender cup because of alignment? Bravo on all the other body work.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck

The fender cup needs to be stretched out some to fit properly. I've seen others that did this as well. I bought mine from Manes Truck Parts and it is nice piece, just needed some massaging.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck

Buddy and I cut the frame last night. I had all the preliminary items removed and jack stands in place before he came over. Once we started, it took 3 1/2 hours to cut and reassemble using the Brothers conversion kit. One note! the Brothers template supplied in my kit was off 1/2" for the cab mount location. This thread discusses the template error.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck

Update, truck is now a shorty. Front suspension components mostly removed. Pulling the engine this week for good cleaning and gaskets. Frame will be scraped(47 years of crud) and cleaned and then painted with chassis saver. I have a lot of the underhood accessories painted semi gloss black. Also order complete brake line set from inline tube, very nice parts. Found that I have a go fast optioned air cleaner, notice the extra holes. Finally making good progress! Feels good.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck

Another note from the weekend, I fixed the wing window seal on my '72. I never liked the way the rubber seal looked, turns out I did not have it installed correctly. I still need to trim window sweep back about an inch. Looks much cleaner with the seal inside the door.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck

Had a busy weekend. Pulled the engine and trans for cleaning. Engine runs very well, so I'll change the timing set and replace all gaskets. 8 hours of scraping and cleaning on the frame and another 4 to paint. Ready to paint the firewall next. I think I am done tearing it apart and should be putting it back together soon.

Making a lot progress! All new brake lines from Inline tube are awesome. Still need to clean up the trans and get installed.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck

Front suspension is all back together, all new springs and Moog parts. Trans is next and then the exhaust. All new wiring harnesses are installed. Took the radiator in for testing, should have it back early in the week. Then I can fire it up and make it movable under its own power.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck

Truck is coming along great. Once I get mine roadworthy again I'm headed straight to the muffler shop to get a bead on that frame cut.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck

I did not rebuild the engine. It ran really well when I got it, just had leaks everywhere. I cleaned it up, painted and put all new gaskets on it. I used the one piece oil pan gasket that is very nice.
